Wat's POV

"Show it to me, my love. The day we first met" I whispered, kissing his hair as he placed his head on my chest, tucking it under my chin.

We threaded our fingers together, matching leather bracelets on our wrists touching each other.

I closed my eyes and let his memories merge with mine as I recalled the night that changed my life.

*

A full moon rode the skies that night, lighting vampires and werewolves alike with its enriching beams.

We met on neutral ground, on the estate of Lord Mil, a human aristocrat who was a friend to both sides. The location chosen for this was a gazebo in the middle of a vast, open lawn that extended in all directions. It precluded any ambush or sudden attack.

The Alpha Council had eight members, presided by Alpha Dim. Alphas Air, Earn and Pamela from the Northeast packs, Alpha Green from the Southeast pack, and Alphas Man and Boss from the Southeast packs, made up the quorum. I, the Alpha of the Bloodmoon pack of the Northwest, was Dim's second-in-command.

We were in our human form out of respect for the agenda of the first non-hostile meeting with the Coven Elders in centuries. The vampires had checked in their weapons at the gate in the same spirit.

We had responded to an exhausted, emotional call for truce after two young families of innocents on either side had been slaughtered along our common borders by rogue werewolves and newly-turned vampires blinded by bloodlust.

The three Coven Elders, Lord Marcus, Lady Diane and Lord Keith, were accompanied by their successors, the Vampire Elite. Each sired by one of the Elders, the Elites were among the most powerful beings on either side of the war. I saw two, the third was as yet not present among those gathered.

I had fought against them all in the past, but had never seen their faces under the armours they wore to battle. Formidable foes and fierce warriors, I held a grudging respect for them.

In the pale moonlight that nevertheless lit the surroundings almost as brightly as daytime, the vampires gleamed white. Tall, pale and flawlessly beautiful, they possessed an ethereal grace.

I felt the same sense of awe from my fellow Council members.

"I hate these fuckers, but they're a sight to behold" shared Man through the mindlink, looking at one of the Elites. I cringed at the lust that flowed out of Man in waves.

"Keep it in your pants, asshole" scolded Earn, irritated by the arousal that elevated all our heartbeats.

"Sorry" thought Man, contritely.

Their scent was cloyingly sweet, like strong perfume that invaded and overpowered our senses. It was irritating.

"Are we waiting for someone, or shall we begin?" spoke Dim in a low growl.

"We await my son. He had urgent business to tend to. We shall begin when he comes" spoke Lord Marcus in a smooth, rich baritone that sounded like musical instruments playing.

I felt my wolf stirring restlessly within me. I instinctively looked to my right, across the open grounds. A light breeze blew, carrying with it a smell that made my wolf howl with ecstasy.

I immediately blocked my mindlink. My erractic heartbeats and the blood flowing southwards in a growing hardness were indication of the impossible.

My mate was headed towards me.

My breath whooshed out of my chest at the first sight.

He strode with long, unhurried steps that nevertheless seemed to cover ground faster than the blink of an eye. His cloak billowed behind him like a death angel's wings. He was taller and paler than the others. His face was so perfectly carved, it made my heart physically ache.
