It was Christmas Eve at night and Deku was lying in his bed asleep.
"Every night on Christmas Eve, I lay silently, never wrinkling my bed sheets, slowly breathing in slowly and silently, I was listening for a sound I'm afraid I never hear, the ringing bells of Santa's sleigh", said Deku's thoughts.
Deku heard ringing bells then woke up.
He got up and moved off the bed to the window.
He smeared the frost off the window.
He looked outside and only saw a snowman on the lawn.
He heard the bell again and slightly ran out of his room.
He walked down stairs and saw no presents under the tree yet nor that the stockings were filled; the cookies weren't eaten yet either.
He heard the bell again and saw a shadow from the kitchen that could be Santa Claus.
But it was just Deku's dad, Hisashi Midoriya, putting down Eri, Deku's adopted little sister, in the kitchen.
"Alright there I gave you water, now let's get you up to your room and into bed", said Hisashi.
Deku quickly ran upstairs and back into his room.
"But but but, I have to", said Eri.
Deku closed the door and peaked through the keyhole to Eri's room seeing her on her bed with Hisashi and Inko, Deku's mother, standing beside her.
"But he said Santa would have to travel faster than the speed of light to get to everyone's houses in one night".
"So", said Hisashi.
"And he said to hold all the presents the sleigh would have to be bigger than the ocean miner", said Eri.
"He really said that, he was just kidding you, you there's a Santa", said Hisashi.
"He said he wasn't sure, he wasn't sure if Santa was real", said Eri.
"Of course Santa is real, he's just as real as Christmas ever is", said Hisashi.
"But he won't come until your fast asleep young lady", said Inko.
Inko gave Eri a kiss on the forehead.
"Sweet dreams".
"Santa will be here before you know it", said Hisashi turning off Eri's light.
Inko walked out.
"So go to sleep".
Hisashi closed the door and a hat with a jingling bell hanged on his side then he walked away.
Deku realized he only heard the bell of Hisashi's Santa hat.
Deku sorted through some papers and books looking at one with a Santa being exposed then one with Santa on strike then the last with a kid holding a Santa outfit.
He then sorted through the books and grabbed one opening it.
He found the north pole section and started reading it.
"Stark barren, devoid of life", said Deku.
Deku heard his parents coming and quickly jumped in his bed covered himself then closed his eyes.
Hisashi opened the door.
"He's gotta be asleep by now", whispered Hisashi.
"He used to stay awake all night waiting for Santa", whispered Inko.
They both walked in.
"I think those days are just about over", whispered Hisashi.
"Oh, that would be sad if it was true", whispered Deku.
"Yeah, and ended the magic", whispered Hisashi.
"Merry Christmas sweetheart", said Inko.
Inko gave Deku a kiss on the cheek then they walked out.
"He's out like the light, his best dream wouldn't wake him up now", whispered Hisashi.
Hisashi closed the door and Deku opened his eyes.
"End of the magic", said Deku's thoughts.
Deku turned on his back and looked up at the ceiling then at the clock then back to the ceiling closing his eyes as he heard nothing but the ticking if his clock.
Then the ticking stopped as Deku woke up and looked at his clock again.
Then he heard and felt rumbling in his room.
Then there was a light and train whistle blowing.
Deku jumped out of bed and putted on his slippers then grabbed his green jacket from the rack causing a tear in his pocket and ran out side.
Deku ran out the front door seeing a train stop by his house.
"All aboard", said a voice.
Deku saw a man standing with a lamp.
"All aboard".
Deku walked up to the man who revealed to be a conductor with glasses and blue hair and a conductor hat.
"Well you coming", asked the conductor.
"Where", asked Deku.
"Why to the north pole of course, this is the polar express", answered the conductor.
"Who are you", asked Deku.
"Tenya Iida, the train conductor", answered Iida saluting.
"Wait, you said to the north pole", asked Deku.
"I see, hold this please", said Iida giving Deku the lamp.
"Thank you".
Iida grabbed the clipboard.
"Is this your name"?
"Yeah", answered Deku.
"Well it says here you didn't have a picture of a store Santa this year, didn't write a letter, and made your adopted sister put out the milk and cookies, sounds like to me this is your crucial year if I were you I would recommend climbing on board", said Iida.
Iida looked at a special watch from his pocket.
"Come on, come I got a schedule to keep".
Deku shook his head and backed up.
"Suit yourself".
Iida hopped on then the train started running.
As the train chuged and started slightly moving Deku stood there thinking then decided to hop on the train.
