Chapter Sixteen
Beck's POV
"What the f*ck was that!" Tori whispers, slightly shaking against me. I wrap my arms around her and rub her back. "It's okay, it's okay" I sooth and she begins to relax. "I think my power pack might've blown up or something" I reach over and grab my pear phone from the table, turning on the flash light. Tori squints at the arrival of the bright light. The torch lights up her face in a whole new way, casting little shadows under her cheekbones and nose. "I'm gonna go check it out, you just get under the blankets, grab your phone torch and have some of the popcorn" I ease her out of my arms and onto the couch. She grasps my hand. "If you die out there I swear I will go up to heaven and drag you back down so I can kill you myself" She warns and I burst out laughing. Then I tilt my head. "You think I'm going to heaven?" Even in the lowlight, I can still see Tori blush. "Duh, you're like the nicest guy ever Beck" I smile, her compliment warms my heart. Tori rolls her eyes. "Yes yes, I'm a big sap now go get the lights back on please" She waves me away and I laugh, still looking at her as I exit the RV.
I walk around to the back of my RV and open up the battery box. Yep, it's exploded. Must be running out of juice. I don't touch it, there's battery liquid everywhere; so instead I shut the box and head to my parents house. My Dad's in Vancouver visiting a sick family member so it's just my Mom home. She's at the kitchen island, sitting on one of the stools and talking on the phone. I wave to let her know I'm here and she pulls the phone away from her mouth. "What was that bang?" She whispers. "Battery pack" I say then mime an explosion. She oooooh's and nods. "Grabbing some candles" I whisper and she gives me a thumbs up then continues talking. I rummage around in the cupboard and finally produce some long candles and a pack of tea lights.
I head back to my RV and pull the door open. I can see a little light emmiting from a pile of blankets. "Beck?" Tori whispers. She shines her phone light at me and I blink, blocking some of the light with my hand. "Jesus that's bright" I laugh. She aims it away from my eyes. "Sorry!" I wave her apology off and grab my zippo out of my dresser. I strike the flame and light one of the candles. Tori raises an eyebrow at me. "Candles? I thought this wasn't a date" She grins. I feel my face heat up, not from the candle. "Did I ever specify?" I say back coolly. Now Tori's bright red. "It's not" I quickly reply. I'm a little hurt to see her shoulders sag with relief. I clear my throat. "Could you uh, help me with these?" I motion to the candles and she jumps up off the couch. Together, we light the candles and place them all around my RV. They bask the room in a golden light that complements Tori's eyes perfectly. We sit back down and I grab my laptop. "So, I take it we don't want to watch a horror movie in the dark" I joke. Tori quickly shakes her head. "Okay, so I have the Hunger Games , The Breakfast club, 1917 or The Kissing Booth 2" I read out the list of movies. Tori looks at me, suppressing a smile. "You've seen the first kissing booth?" I blink twice with confusion. "Is that a bad thing?" Tori reaches her hand into the popcorn bowl and tosses a piece in her mouth. "No, it's just I didn't expect you to watch rom coms" I punch her arm gently. "Hey, I have my romantic side, miss Vega" She laughs and hits me back. "Sure you do" She shakes her head. "Let's watch the breakfast club" I click on the title and put my laptop on the coffee table.
Tori wraps herself up in a blanket slightly leans into me. I look down at her. "You cold?" She nods slightly. I put an arm around her and she scoots closer. Her body fits so perfectly in mine. "Thanks" She whispers as the movie begins. I try to ignore the fact that my heart is practically beating out of my chest as she snuggles into me. I try to focus on the movie and not her overwhelming vanilla scent.
We're towards the end of the movie and I realise that Tori's fallen asleep. Her body is completely limp against mine, her mouth hanging open slightly, eyes closed. I steal a kiss on the top of her head, her hair smelling like cinnamon. I pull the blanket tighter around her. This is what it would be like if we were together. Movie night on Friday, fall asleep together. I want that so badly. Why is it so hard for me to admit to her that I'm in love with her?
"Tori" I whisper as the credits begin to roll. "Toriii" I shake her gently and she mumbles something. "What was that?" I grin, peeling the blanket back a little. Tori opens her eyes a little. "Mm?" Then fully. "Oh, did I fall asleep?" She says crankily and I nod. "Ugh, sorry Beck, I hate that!" She rubs her eyes and I wave her off. "Don't worry about it, you don't snore TOO loud" I tease and she sleepily wacks my arm. "Well I should probably head ho-" She's interrupted by a yawn. I give a puff of laughter. "You look completely out of it, why don't you stay here tonight?" I offer. She frowns. "But I didn't bring pyjamas" I rub the back of my neck, then gesture to my closet. "You could borrow a t shirt if you want?" Tori lifts her head slightly, then nod. "Mmkay" I laugh and pat her head, then get off the couch. I pull out an old Dodgers t shirt and hand it to her. "Thanks Beck" She stands up and slips off her tank top without warning. I quickly avert my eyes and she laughs. "Relax, nothing you haven't already seen before" She says casually and I can't stop myself from watching as she tugs the t-shirt over her black bra . My shirt is like a dress on her, hanging just above her knees. She shimmies off her jeggings and then folds them. "You want the bed or the couch?" I ask. Tori raises an eyebrow. "I'm not gonna make you sleep on the couch in your own home Beck, I'm not a prissy princess. The couch is fine" She answers and lies back down. "I really don't mind" I protest, but she waves a hand in the air and I close my mouth. Tori smirks and closes her eyes.
I pull of my sweatpants and put on some pyjama shorts. I leave my singlet and hoodie on. "Night Tori" I say, but she's already back asleep. I stifle a laugh, then lift her head and put a pillow under it. Brushing a strand of hair from her face, I leave her to sleep and climb into my own bed. A few minutes later though, I hear her get up, pull the blankets back and climb in next to me. "I thought you weren't a prissy princess" I whisper teasingly. "Okay, your couch is really uncomfortable to sleep on" She whispers back and I laugh. "I know, that's why I offered for you to come here first!" I argue. She taps my nose and then turns away, her long messy brunette waves facing me. "Night Beck, for real this time" She mumbles sleepily. I go up on my elbows and pull the comforter over her. I can see a little smile appear on her lips. "Goodnight" I whisper back. It takes a lot of self control for me to not slip my arm around her waist and pull her closer. Instead I flip over onto my back and let the sound of Tori's soft breathing lull me into sleep.
