Chapter Six

Beck's POV

What is wrong with me! I should not have done that! Poor Tori looked so nervous as to what I was going to do. I have no idea what possessed me to reach out and run my hand over Tori's tight bicep. Her skin felt so smooth and soft. I couldn't stop myself. But I totally violated her personal space! I throw my head back and sigh.

"Beck?" A voice snaps me out of my thoughts. Andre. It's the break between second and third period; I'm leaning against my locker. "You good man?" He asks, playing a short melody on the keyboard of his locker so it pops open. "Yeah, yeah" I mutter, pinching the bridge of my nose. "Hey did you hear about what happened with Cat?" He asks, pulling a binder out of his locker. "No, what happened?" I ask, immediately concerned for the Redhead's safety. "Apparently her brother did something stupid while he was on parole and he's going on trial. She got pulled out of second period and apparently her and her parents have to go to San Diego for the trial asap" I frown. "Then what happens with her role in our movie? Her and I are the leads!" Andre shuts his door and we begin walking to Sikowitz. "Don't stress man, we'll just get her understudy to fill in for her part" I step to the side as Sinjin cartwheels past us (yes, this is a normal event). "We cast an understudy?" I ask, trying to remember when we did this. "Who's gonna play Rebecca?" Andre grins at me as he holds the door open for me.

"Tori"

I freeze. Oh sh*t. (sorry for my language but OH SH*T) My character Brian and Tori's character have a kiss scene. I was fine with kissing Cat, it was for the movie and we had done it before. But Tori? The girl I am so deeply crushing on at the moment? We have some passionate dialogue too. I don't know how I'll be able to keep my cool when "professing my love" for Tori! I sink into my chair, still processing. "Earth to Beck?" Andre jokes, waving a hand in front of my eyes. "Um, can't we get someone else to fill in for Cat's part?" I ask quietly as the rest of our class begins to file through the door. "The only other girl in our group is Jade. Do you really want to have a romantic scene with your ex girlfriend?" He asks. I hesitate, then quickly shake my head. "Besides, what's wrong with Tori?" Andre questions.

"Yeah, what is wrong with me, Beck?" Tori plonks down in the chair next to Andre, a mischievous grin on her face. She looks adorable like that. I grin back. "Nothing Vega, nothing" I shake my head jokingly. Tori bites her lower lip to keep from smiling and directs her attention to the stage. Okay, so maybe having a romantic scene with Tori won't be too bad. I can worry about the kiss later.

"Morning Boys, Girls and...others" Our hippie of a teacher swings a leg through the window, a coconut in his hand. We all give various greetings. "Now, my job is easy today" He grins, sipping from his coconut. "Today is your lesson to finalise your scripts for your student films. Now remember, a 10-15 minute short film with original writing, 4-5 characters and a romance theme. This counts for 50% of your final grade so DO NOT, be taking this lightly Jade West I mean you" Sikowitz looks to Jade accusingly. She responds with an eye roll. "NOW GET TO WORK CHILDREN" He claps his hands and the class splits off into their groups.

"Alright alright" Andre takes charge as soon as Jade and Robbie join me and Tori; completing our group (minus Cat of course). "We all clear on the plan yeah? Meet up at the black box theatre tomorrow after school. Tori, you're gonna fill in for Cat's part yeah?" Tori shifts uncomfortably in her seat; I can tell that she's nervous about something. "Um, about that...I...I'll uh, be right back" She jumps out of her chair and slips out the door. "What do you think that's about?" Robbie asks the three of us left. "I don't know, I'm gonna go check" I say, pushing myself up. Jade scoffs and kicks her feet up on my empty chair. I glare at her. "Something wrong Jade?" I ask. She shrugs. "No no, go fix Vega's problems like the hero you are". I feel my anger start to build, so I open my mouth but Andre gets between me and Jade. "Just go man" He says quietly to me. I pull on the cuffs of my denim jacket and walk out the door.

After looking around for a minute, I can't even find Tori! Then I hear her voice coming from the Janitor's closet. I tiptoe over and push the door open a crack. Her brunette waves face me as her back is turned. She's talking angrily into her phone.

"Don't you get it?" She hisses. "I AM the understudy, I'm the one who fills in- there's no understudy for the understudy! ...well cancel it...Rod this is important, the shoot isn't...oh come on, you can't get them to push it back one day? ...yeah, you will do that...yes I am sassing you! ...I don't care how you do it just find a way...please! ...yeah...yes I'll be there...okay...don't blow this for me...okay...bye" She hangs up and runs a hand through her hair. I push the door open and step inside. "Hey".

She screams and jumps back...and straight into my chest. "Oh Beck" she laughs nervously and untangles herself from my arms. "Sorry, you scared me". I run a hand through my hair. "No, I'm sorry" I quickly apologise. We stand there in silence for a second, before I blurt out "So who were you talking to?" I can't help myself. Her face pales for a split second. "Oh, just my...uncle! Yeah, he's um, he's coming to visit and uh, just wanted to know when I'd be around" She manages, not meeting my gaze. I can tell she's lying, but for her sake I decide not to press it any further.
