As if I could roll my eyes any harder they would pop at my head. I watched as they walked in and my parents greeted them, my dad shook Mr. Henderson's hand while their repulsive son Roderick looked me up and down while giving me a seductive grin and winking. I moved closer to Damien who felt me move and stiffen up a bit at how close we were, honestly the heat from his body sent a chill up my spine in the weirdest way. I was focused on his heat when Mr. Henderson looked at me

"Good evening princess"

"It's just Sarah" I said with a slight annoyance, he nodded, but not before he furrowed his eyebrows at the remark. Carl led us to the dining room hall that could literally fit up to 20 people at one table. I sat in between Derek and Damien while my parents sat next to each other and the Henderson's sat across from the boys and I. Pat brought out the food and I had to admit we did a pretty good. We started to eat and my parents were having a conversation with them

"Martha this food is delightful, your little 'pet' can cook" Mr Henderson commented

I glared at him "Actually that little pet would be me" my blood was boiling

He looked at me "Well then whats the point of having these bloodsucking pests if they don't do anything" He seethed through his teeth "If she was my slave she would've been punished"

I heard myself growl "Its a good thing she isn't because she wouldn't survive in that house with you abusing your slaves, you have no respect for anything but your filth of a son and a wife that goes along with everything you say because she has no back bone. Pat didn't just sit her lazy ass on a stool and watch me cook for people like you. I offered to help her, so don't you dare come into my castle and start making judgement on things. I am going to be your queen not the other way around" I said pounding my fist on the table and standing up

"Whoa Sarah" Derek said holding in a laugh

"Derek be quiet, you probably condoned this outburst" My father said

My father and brother go at it every time Derek comes home because Derek decided he wanted to go to uni instead of staying home and being king. Now my father thinks he's some big shot that can do anything he wants and he hates the fact that he wants to do something different with himself.

"I didn't tell her to say anything"

I rolled my eyes as they started arguing back and forth between each other. I stood up and casually walked away from the mumur of their voices. I walked to the backyard looking over the outstretch of dark green pasture fading into black as no light shows farther than the eye can see. I sat on my bench swing letting my head hang against it as I stared up at the stars when someone sat next to me. I turned to see Damien sitting there looking at me with a puzzled look on his face

"Hey"

"Hey" he sighed "What you did back there for Patricia was nice, but I'm confused. Why would you ever stick up for people like us?"

I sit up and look at my hands  "I'm not a heartless person who hates everything and everyone" turning to look at him "I bet you thought I was going to be some cold hearted princess, who always got her way. I actually like vampires, I know humans are supposed hate them, but I don't" looking back at my hands again

He continued to look at me "I misjudged you Sarah, but we could never be friends"

"Why not, what is so wrong with wanting to be friends with a vampire?" I asked staring at him

"Because it's not natural for a human and vampire to be close, let alone be friends"

I stood up "That's not a real reason, if I wanna be friends with a vampire then I can"
