It's Jess's first time having a step-father and it's not fun. I mean sure, it brought her mom great happiness when he asked her to marry him, but it doesn't for Jess; and her mom told her to always inform her if she didn't like something--and this was one of them, but then again... her mom is happy. Then, one night, a huge hurricane erupts and Jess is separated from her mom and brother, only to find that she has of is the one person who she hates the most.

i got this idea from this sub in middle school who told us about this incident that happened between a family that got separated due to a hurricane. or if it was just a movie. idk. i'm pretty sure the mom is the one who gets separated from the family.
