"YOU! GET UP AND OUT OF MY HOUSE NOW!!" her 'dad' William Brown shouted from the kitchen. He wasn't actually her dad, and she sure didn't treat him like one.
She jolted awake. "I'm up!" she shouted, trying her best not to sound like she was just sleeping moments ago. She had it again. The same nightmare that would haunt her for the rest of her life. (A.N. the nightmare is the prologue) She shook her head. I wish I could NOT dream of that memory for once, she thought. Rosa sighed. It was always the same. Like, could I dream of going to candy land, where the water is actually marshmallow cream or something? Like a NORMAL dream?
She tried to get dressed as quickly, not wanting to anger William anymore. She came downstairs, hopping on one foot as she tried to put a shoe on. She ended up tripping and falling flat on her face at the bottom step, and her nose started bleeding. She bit her lip, trying not to show any sign of pain.
Will shouted as he grabbed her collar of her shirt when she got up, "Hey! You better be back the minute after school is done, or ELSE." He greatly emphasized the last word.
"Y-yes sir", she stuttered, falling to the ground with a loud THUD as he let go of her shirt.
"Good. Also, this is for leaving the house looking like CRAP yesterday!"
SLAP.
Rosa, not knowing what to say, ran out the door, blinking back tears. She rubbed the now red-ish bruise, (A.N. she bruises easily, that's all I can say TwT) running to school. On the way, she pulled out a napkin and cleaned her nose up.
~At School~
"Hey Rosa, you good?" her best friend Elizabeth asked when she was within eyesight of her.
Dang it! She noticed the bruise, Rosa thought.
She started to sweat as she tried to think of a lie. Think think think! "Oh umm, this? I bumped into the door on my way out," she said, trying not to show that she was lying.
"Oh, ok. I thought you were slapped or something." Liz said, laughing a little.
"Haha, yeah, it kinda looks like that huh?" Rosa said, relieved that her lie had worked.
~Time skip- After School~
"Welp, now I just lost all my brain cells."
"Is that sarcasm I'm hearing?"
"Whaaaat? Nooooo."
"Ok, well, see ya Liz!"
"Bye Rosa! See ya tonight?"
"Maybe. My dad might not like it. I'll tell you what he says."
"Ok, bye!"
Rosa ran towards her house, panting. Well, here we. The underworld. Wait.. what time is it? Oh jeez. It's 2:51. Rosa thought to herself. Wait... what if I go around the back? Yes! That'll work! He won't notice I haven't been here!
She walked around the house to reveal a secret kind of path. Overgrown Ivy and weeds were abundant. She walked, pushing vines out of her path as she went. After a little while, a door was visible. She pushed the roots, vines, and other plants from off the door, while trying to hear if her dad was home. The door opened with a CREAK. She winced, hoping, praying, that her dad wasn't home. She peeked inside, then, seeing that the coast was clear, tiptoed up to her room. She found the door open. Fear, swelling like a balloon, took a look inside her room. Then she let out a breath of relief. Phew. It's just a maid.
"Hello," Rosa said. The maid was startled at her unannounced arrival.
"AHH! H-hello, oh, it's just you Miss." The young maid let out a sigh of relief.
Rosa chuckled a bit. "Sorry, did I startle you? Also, no need to be so formal with me! Call me Rosa."
"Yes, just a little. Sorry, Rosa. Are you okay?! Did Master slap you again?!"
Rosa let out a sigh. "Yes, but it isn't that bad. I've been hit with worse." She muttered the last part so the maid couldn't hear.
"Oh, alright, if you say so." The maid said as she walked out of her room.
