"You lied to us"
Chapter two: poison
Season 1 Episode 2: Green Birds
*Trigger Warning*

Madeline woke up to the sound of her alarm blaring in her ear. She groggily reached over to turn it off and sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes. She looked around the dark room, trying to get her bearings.

She tossed off the covers and swung her legs over the side of the bed, planting her feet firmly on the ground. She stretched her arms above her head, arching her back and letting out a gentle yawn.

"Okay, time to get moving," she said to herself, throwing off the covers and padding over to the closet.

She grabbed a pair of black dress pants and a cream colored turtleneck shirt along with her matching blazer from the rack and began to get dressed. As she was slipping on her shirt, she heard a tiny voice calling out from the next room she quickly put her belt on and black heeled booties.

"Mommy! Mommy!"

Madeline's heart skipped a beat as she rushed out of the closet to see what all the commotion was about. She found her almost-three-year-old son, Santiago, standing in his bedroom doorway, his big blue eyes shining with excitement.

"Mommy, I'm ready for school!" he exclaimed, his little voice trembling with enthusiasm.

Madeline's heart swelled with love and pride as she smiled at her little boy. "Good morning, sweetie! I'm so proud of you for getting ready so early. Let's get you dressed and have some breakfast before we head out."

Santiago nodded eagerly, his brown curls bobbing up and down as he followed his mother into the bathroom—an image of Jay Halstead with a small hit of Madeline in her son.

As she got Santiago dressed in his clothes for the day, Madeline couldn't help but think about how fast he was growing up. It seemed like just yesterday he was a tiny baby in her arms, and now he was almost three years old.

As they made their way to the kitchen, Madeline asked Santiago what he wanted for breakfast. "Pancakes!" he exclaimed, his eyes shining with excitement.

Madeline chuckled and got out the mixing bowl. "Okay, buddy! But you have to help me make them."

Santiago nodded eagerly, climbing up onto a stool to help his mother mix the batter. As they cooked the pancakes, Madeline couldn't help but think about how much fun she had watching her little boy learn and grow.

After breakfast, Madeline helped Santiago get his backpack packed and they headed out the door to catch the bus.

As they walked down the sidewalk, Madeline asked Santiago what he wanted to do after school. "Play with toys!" he exclaimed, his eyes shining with excitement.

Madeline smiled and ruffled his hair. "We'll see what we can do after school, okay?"
