"special agent—Jay"
Chapter four: sinper
Season 1 Episode 4: Crossfire
*Trigger Warning*

Madeline lay on her bed as Santiago slept soundly next to her. Earlier that day, her mind had been preoccupied with thoughts of the burning site, so she had asked Santiago to sleep in her bedroom. He didn't mind one bit, enjoying the comfort of her bed and the chance to cuddle with his mom while they watched a movie before falling asleep.

The following day, after dropping him at preschool, she waved at him as he entered the building along with his classmates. Other parents stayed to watch their kids enter the building and then talked among themselves afterward.

As Madeline turned to walk back home, she was greeted by an FBI vehicle where her partner sat in the driver's seat, waving at her.

"Let's go," he shouted.

"I don't have my weapon!" she shouted back as she jogged towards the car.

"Don't worry, I went to your place first before coming here," Zayn said, handing her a holster that contained her weapon and her badge. "Shooting at a government building," he said before driving off with lights and sirens.

They arrived at the scene and climbed out of the car, walking over to a detective who was waiting for the two agents. The detective immediately recognized the female agent, a face he hadn't seen in a while.

"Special Agent—Jay," Madeline said, showing him her badge but stopping once she recognized the face.

Jay froze as he stared at his ex-girlfriend, the one he hadn't seen in almost three years. She looked different; her eyes, once full of life, were now dull. Her long brown hair was now short and layered. The cut on her eyebrow and the bruise underneath her eye caught his attention—he was fighting the urge to wrap his arms around her.

Madeline stared at him. He still looked the same, just a bit older. She shook her head to regain her composure before she spoke again. "Special Agent Sanchez and my partner Special Agent Adom. What happened?" she said, showing him her badge again.

Jay got the hint and nodded. "Detective Halstead. Shooter dropped three," he explained to the two agents. "Unknown how many injured in the aftermath. After the first body fell, people started looking to the sky. After the second, the screaming started. After the third, all hell broke loose."

"Pandemonium," Madeline cut in as they walked towards the scene.

"Pandemonium. People trampled, somebody got hit by a car."

Madeline and Zayn both kneeled by a body and lifted the blanket to look at the victims. "Three bullets, three kills," she said, looking at her partner.

"All headshots on moving targets," Zayn said, standing up.
