I sighed as I wound down the window letting the cool breeze gently fan my face. My elder sister groaned as the breeze obviously hit her side of the car and she glared at me.

“For God’s sake Tor, shut the God damn window it’s messing up my hair” she moaned at me and I rolled my eyes. It felt like hell in here and she was worried about her hair being messed up.

“Sophie, language” my dad warned from the front as he quickly over took a car that was merely crawling along the inside lane. I closed my eyes as the car sped up and the power of the wind on my face increased.

“Jeez, all I said was ‘God damn’” Sophie mumbled sliding down in her seat.

We had this argument every year during the journey. It was the first day of the summer break and just like every year my family and I were heading to the same resort. My dad was good friends with the owner meaning we could get special rates and basically got treated like we to run the place. We had been coming here ever since I could remember and it had gotten to the point where my sister and I never questioned it, it was now just accepted we would be going to the “Southerman Country Club and Resort”.

I jumped as my dad took a sharp turn off the main road and sat up in my seat as I felt the texture of the ground beneath the car turn from tarmac and into gravel that crunched underneath the wheels of the car

“Here we are girls” my dad said briefly turning around and grinning at us.

He tapped my mum on the shoulder to wake her up from the peaceful sleep that she had been enjoying to let her know we had arrived. I looked out of the window and smiled at the familiar sight. As we drove up the long gravel path the huge house came into sight and a number of people were dotted around the grass in front of it taking part in various activities. To most 17 year olds this sight would have bored them and made them wish they were back at home with their computers and various other gadgets but to me it felt like home. The car eventually pulled to a stop behind a long line of cars that were being unloaded by members of staff. I undid my buckle and fiddled with my hair until it sat in place before climbing out of the car after my sister.

“The swimming pool is now open for free leisure and will close at an earlier time of five pm” I heard a young voice shout over a speaker as I noticed a rather large man approaching us.

“Rick” he called out catching my dad’s attention and he turned around before grinning at him.

I then recognised the man to be Gale Southerman who was not only my dad’s friend but the owner of the whole place. My dad used to come here when he was about my age which is why we had made it into a family tradition. It was a fairly dated place to be completely honest and I was clueless to why it still was so popular during the summers but every year families of all ages would fill the various chalets and rooms inside the country house for the summer. It was one of those very minimal technology based places. All of the activities that would take place would be based outdoors and being in the heart of the state of New York it was usually always sunny here in the summer meaning things would run smoothly.

“Harry” Gale called out breaking me from my trance of admiring my familiar surroundings.
