My POV. (Pia)
“Get up!” my brother Jaymi shouted and interrupted me having wonderful dreams about the summer holidays which have just ended, “First day of work today!”
As I finished college before summer I got myself a job at Boots in a shopping center in Luton. I had to gain money so I was able to travel around Europe next year. I’ve always wanted to do that and now that I don’t have to go to school anymore I am finally free to do it.
“Did you make breakfast?” I asked and followed Jaymi downstairs, “it smells lovely!” I breathed in the smell of pancakes and custard.
“Yep,” he smiled at me, “to make the getting up early a bit easier.”
“Thank you, Jaymi,” I said and sat down at the kitchen table and started filling my plate with food, “You’re the best bro ever!”
He laughed and did the same, “Probably because I’m your only brother, huh?” he winked and took a bite of the pancakes, “Do you want me to drive you to work?” he asked with a full mouth.
“No, thanks. I’m taking the bus,” I said and gave him a grateful smile.
After we finished breakfast Jaymi left for his work and I went upstairs to get my work outfit on. There wasnt really a dresscode, I just had to wear neutral coloured clothes. So I got on blue jeans and a white shirt. I put my hair up in a messy bun and applied some make up.
I left the house at 8:20 to catch the bus at 8:30 so I’d be at the shopping center at around 8:50. As I arrived my boss gave me a working ID Card which I had to use to check in and out everyday so he would know when I came to work and when I left.
The first 2 hours were quite easy. As it was a normal working day most people have been working and there weren’t many customers at the shop. I was allowed to take a 10 minute break at 11 so I went to Costa to get a coffee. Although I selpt like 8 or 9 hours last night I still felt tired.
As I entered the shop I greeted my best friend’s boyfriend Luke who’s worked here for years.
“Hiya,” he said and smiled at me, “Can I get you your Chili Latte for the last time, today?”
“For the last time?” I wondered, “Are you not selling it anymore? You can’t do that to me, Luke! Seriously, why?”
He laughed and started making my coffee, “No, we’re not! It’s just my last day here.”
I opened my mouth in astonishment, “Aw, really? I didn’t know! What are you doing now?”
“Well,” he shrugged, “I got a job at a bistro to work in the kitchen. That sounded interesting and I really wanted some change.”
“Wow, good for you,” I smiled and took the coffee he handed to me, “But who’s gonna make my Latte for me from now on? I’m gonna be lost!”
Luke laughed again, “Don’t worry, I know how to solve that problem. I am currently teaching our newbie George how everything works.”
All of a sudden a guy appeard from behind the counter. He must have sat on the ground for whatever reason and now he was smiling at me. He had curly hair, it was all messed up and his blue hoodie seemed as if he bought it a size bigger than he acutally needed. But I was really petrified by his smile, it was so beautiful and innocent, “Hi there,” he said and I realised how stupid I must have looked, standing there startled.
I felt Luke’s gaze on my, so I gathered myself together and smiled back at George, trying to stay as calm as possible, “Hi!” I said quickly and turned to Luke, “You better be a good teacher, Luke! If I don’t get a Latte as good as this one in the future I am going to get you from that Bistro and drag you back here myself!”
