George’s POV.
It’s been a week since Pia and I finally got together and I couldn’t be more happy right now. We spent every lunch break together and I eventually have the feeling that I belong somewhere. I mean I have a group of friends now. JJ, Jaymi and Josh are amazing, I love making music with them and Dani, Joanne and Ko are the funniest girls I’ve ever meet. I’d be lying if I said I was angry at my mum when she decided to move here but now I am sure that it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Pia and I were currently in the kitchen, preparing salad and hamburgers for our movie night. We had invited Ko and Josh, Jaymi and JJ to my house so they got to see my place. Dani and Joanne were both busy but Joanne said she might join us after work.
“George, what are you doing?” Pia said and laughed. She took the pepper mill out of my hands, “Are you trying to kill us with all that pepper?”
I looked down at the tomato mozzarella salad I was just trying to season and sighed, “Damn, I wasn’t paying attention.”
“It’s okay,” she ruffled through my hair, “I think we’re gonna survive it.” She took the salad bowl and carried it to the dining table. It was 6:30 which meant everyone should be here, soon. I continued with frying the hamburger meat because I was probably not going to screw that up, as well. Pia has become such a help in the last few days, it’s unreal. Am I so used to her handling everything I wasn’t good at, already?
The door rang and Pia looked around, “I’ll get that. Don’t burn the meat, Georgey!” She winked and left the kitchen. A few seconds later she came back, followed by Josh and Ko.
“Hey, welcome!” I said and smiled at them. Ko gave me a hug and Josh and I high fived.
“Top chef, are you?” Josh asked and winked.
My face went red and I looked at Pia. She smirked but didn’t say anything to embarrass me. I finished the meat and opened the door for Jaymi and JJ. They were in a furious discussion about hair styling products and almost forgot to say hello, they just rushed into my house and fired arguments at each other. I shrugged and walked to the dining room, “Everything ready and set?”
“Yep,” Pia nodded and gestured everyone to take a seat, “So what film are we watching later?”
“Mean girls!” Ko shouted and us boys frowned and looked at her synchronously.
“No,” Josh said patted her hand, “Us boys thought about something more… James Bond.”
Ko pouted but began to make her first hamburger. Pia sat down beside me and did the same, “James Bond?” she asked and stuffed her hamburger with green salad and tomatoes.
“Well,” JJ said and I realized that him and Jaymi dropped their discussion, “What about Mission Impossible.”
“Eww,” Ko said and looked up, “Tom Cruise is not sexy!”
“What?” Josh’s eyebrows jumped, “You don’t need to look at sexy actors, you have me!”
Everyone laughed and Pia squeezed my hand, “I just bought that new film with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, how about that?”
Jaymi nodded, “Sounds amazing, sis!”
“Good,” I said and smiled, “Eat peacefully now!”
Jaymi’s POV.
The ending scene went to fade out and some pop song started playing. I sat on the couch in George’s living room and looked around. The lights were dark and I couldn’t see much but it seemed as though everyone was asleep. George and my sister had snuggled up on a rocking chair and JJ was laying on the floor, good knows why. Josh and Ko sat on the couch next to me. I was just about to get up and turn on the lights when I overheard them talking.
“Should we go to my house in a while?” Josh asked silently, “My mum hasn’t seen you in a while, she says she misses you.”
“I miss her too,” Ko whispered and I think she was smiling, “But I can’t, I have to pack.”
Josh sighed and I couldn’t keep quiet anymore, “Pack for what?” I asked and set up straight.
“Holy moly, Jaymi!” Josh winced.
“Sorry,” I apologized, “I overheard.”
“Ko needs to pack for a weekendtrip with her mum,” Josh began but Ko turned on a lamp standing next to the couch and stopped him.
“It’s okay, Josh,” she sighed, “Eventually I’ll have to tell them, anyway.”
“What’s going on?” George woke up and blinked against the light, “Is the movie over already?”
Before anyone could answer him we all were interrupted by a bumping noise from the floor, “Ouchie,” JJ had hit his head against the little table and now rubbed the back of his head in pain.
“JJ,” I laughed, “Are you alright?”
“Yeah,” he looked confused, “What’s going on?”
“I have to tell you something,” Ko said seriously and sat up straight, then she took a deep breath, “I’m moving to London with my mum in few weeks.”
“What?” Pia shouted and looked shocked, “Why?”
“My mum got a job over there and she thought as I have always wanted to live in London, it would be good if I came with her,” Ko smiled lightly but I could see the sadness in her eyes.
“But,” Pia blinked a few tears away, “You don’t want to go, right?”
Ko shrugged and everyone stared at her. I couldn’t imagine this town without her. No matter how cloudy the sky was, whenever I met her the sun come out because Ko was a person full of happiness and positivity. I was going to miss her bright smile and her jokes she always told us when we were supposed to stay serious in church or other random places. Also Ko was a really good listener and such an honest person. I didn’t want her to go.
“To be honest,” she eventually spoke, “I want to stay here forever. Or at least be with all of you forever.”
JJ was still rubbing his head, “But you don’t have to go, just stay here!”
“How?” Ko asked, “My mum is selling the house.”
“Come on,” I said impatiently, “You can move in with Pia and me or live at Josh’s house.”
She smiled gratefully, “That’s sweet of you but I don’t want to be a pain in the neck, I need my own place.”
“You’d never be a pain in the neck, Ko,” Pia said and pouted.
“That’s it,” Josh said and smiled, then he shook Ko and grabbed her shoulders, “We’re moving in together!”
“Joshy, I-“ she tried to contradict but the look on Josh’s face told me that there was nothing that could possibly stop him right now.
“No, not Joshy. You and me are going to rent a flat! I know we are young and everything but I love you and I’d do whatever it takes to make you stay so I can literally spend every minute of my life with you. We are going to move in together, Koatha!”
