Chapter 11: The internet's judgment

Y/N Pov:

I woke up still a bit sore from last night. Either that or I just slept funny. I got up and put on my black jogging bottoms and a plain white t-shirt and went downstairs. I made yourself some breakfast and sat down on the sofa to watch the news. After watching the weather 'breaking news' came up. 

J Jonah Jameson: "Breaking news. I never thought I would say this but New York prepare. We are now being run over by two menaces once again. After a the death of the Spider-Man Peter Parker his side kick Spider-Women has taken over the city of New York. But last night big news broke! As Spider-Women seems to have a boyfriend! The two Spiders were spotted helping Rhino tearing up a shops car park outside of Harlem. Rhino has been taken under custody by police as the those two insects got off scot free! I'll be back to you with more news after we go to Geoff Shreeves for the sports news." 

I smirked listening to news. My Dad then makes a comment Spiderman as he walks in. "They should both be open about their identity. It takes away from our role of a policeman to protect and serve.". This comment doesn't surprise me. He made a similar comment after the death of Peter Parker. 

I never understood why so many people had voiced this opinion on Spiderman/ Spidergirl, Peter, Gwen and now... me. 

I continue to think to myself until I get a message from Gwen.

Gwen: Come over QUICK! 

I pondered on what it could be as I message Gwen back.

Y/N: On my way! Give me five minutes!

I run upstairs to get changed. Putting my Spiderman suit on and then putting my school suit on over it. I then grab my school bag as I run downstairs. Before I could leave, I get stopped by my parents. 

"Son, be careful out there. With the Rhino breaking out again we are worried about your safety. If you see anything bad, promise me, you run, run straight home. Don't try to be a hero." My parents both look at me with worry in their eyes. I immediately hug them.

"I promise" It was so hard to lie to them, but it they knew that I was the new Spiderman it would do more harm than good. For them to know that I will devote the rest of my life to protecting the people of this city no matter if it puts me in harms would be heartbreaking. I can't let that happen, for their own sake.

As I leave, I could sense they were still watching me from the door. I turn around and give them I wave, which I believe reassured them as they close the door soon after waving back. As soon as I see the door close, I start to run to Gwen's. 

I knock on the door as Gwen's father opens the door. He is the captain of the NYPD. I could tell he had a long night; he must have been up all night having to deal with the aftermath of the Rhino's latest terror on the city. "Morning Mr. L/N" he says as he yawns, holding his coffee close to himself as he takes a long sip. Damn he really must have had a long night. "Gwen told me to send you straight up to her room, very early for you two to leave for school" 

I smiled at Mr. Stacy. "It's just one of those mornings sir, I see you've had a long night." 

Mr. Stacy: "Well after the Rhino's attack last night I had to do a lot of paperwork last night. We are going to have to step up our security at the prison. After Rhino's breakout I felt that it would be on our shoulders if anything happened to any civilians or anyone in the force last night. Thank the lord that there is another Spider, it gives us some relief and pressure off of our shoulders. After the death of" he then whispers "Peter Parker" before going back to a normal volume "the NYDPD haven't been able to catch a break."
