Surprised, Jimin looked at Taehyung, he had no idea why Jeongguk was there.
The handmaid bowed to Jeongguk in a rush and left Taehyung with an apologetic look.
The silence that followed after Jimin left, felt deafening.
They both didn't know what to say.
A breath left Jeongguk before he took a hesitant step forward but Taehyung looked scared.
Scared to be hurt again, to be rejected again.
"...Please," Jeongguk let fall, a tear from his eyes. He offered a hand for Taehyung to hold, to accept Taehyung lifted his hand to reach out to him but his hesitation was getting the better of him. He couldn't even look into Jeongguk's eyes.
Jeongguk met him half way through his hesitation and pulled Taehyung into his embrace.
He hugged the younger tightly as his shoulders began to shake. He silently cried on Taehyung's shoulders.
"I'm sorry love, I really am," he said trying to look at Taehyung's face standing straight now.
Taehyung was still looking down
"a-and of course I love you," he said, raising Taehyung's chin with his finger.
Taehyung was crying, streaks of tears were falling down from his cheeks, he still couldn't believe it. Even his head was slightly shaking a no.
"Please forgive me baby, I did what I did only to save you. If I hadn't they wouldn't have let you live. I couldn't have that. You are my everything Tae, I can't lose you" Jeongguk cried, his hands cupped Taehyung's cheeks as he rested their foreheads together.
He told Taehyung everything that had happened. The revolts, the siege , how much he missed the younger, everything.
Jeongguk had thought that he could do it, he could marry someone else for Taehyung. But it hadn't dawned on him what would the state of his lover be.
He never should have gone to check on him in the dungeon.
The sight of Taehyung crying had imprinted itself on his mind.
He tried.
He had been trying so hard to stay away but tonight, a day before his wedding, was his limit.
He had walked down to tell Taehyung everything, apologize and ask the former King to take him back
They would run away together, he would take Taehyung somewhere safe Somewhere far, far away from here.
But he didn't expect to hear Taehyung to ever say what he had heard.
He had just asked someone to /cut/ his hair. The hair that he had grown out since he was 15. The hair he treasured more than his jewelry.
It felt as if ice cold water was dumped on him. Cold biting at every fiber, he really had made Taehyung suffer.
He was looking at Taehyung's face, his cheeks, his hair, his hands, just looking at him for all the days he hadn't.
His eyes lingered at his hands which were craddling his stomach for too long.
Then goosebumps rose on his body, something akin to butterflies fluttered wild in his stomach.
Was he thinking too much? Was he being paranoid? But Taehyung's expressions were confirming his suspicions.
And Jimin's intrusion were the final dot that connected everything.
"...Tae" he called the younger as he wiped Taehyung's tears away.
"Why?" Taehyung knew Jeongguk was asking why he didn't let him know, why he didn't tell him about the life growing within him.
A life that they both had brought into this world, their baby.
"You know why" Taehyung only cried again as he hit Jeongguk's chest with his fists and cried into his shoulders.
Ofcourse, how could he. He had been so hurt and confused, all because of Jeongguk.
"How many months along are you?"asked Jeongguk now that Taehyung had calmed down a little.
"4 months" said Taehyung with a small little pout.
- "thought so" replied Jeongguk kissing his forehead. He still couldn't believe he was going to be a Father soon.
The bed they were laying on was too small for the both of them but they didn't seem to mind it.
They had finally found each other's embrace again.
But soon Jeongguk was getting up to leave again.
He kissed Taehyung like a starved man but his eyes held longing. He looked at the younger for what seemed like forever before pecking him again.
"I have to go now, but wait for me, they'll release you after the wedding has happened, I promise to meet you before you leave"
Taehyung held his hand tight, as Jeongguk made to leave.
"Don't leave me alone your highness, I can't-" Jeongguk kissed him again
"I'm not, I'll come and we'll leave here together. I promise" he said, " I only came here when I had decided that, now I have all the more reason to run away," he ghosted his hands over Taehyung's belly
" I won't be able to survive without both of you"
He kissed Taehyung one last time on his forehead, before he was leaving again but this time Taehyung was happy.
Taehyung was being escorted out of the dungeon cell as the final bells rang announcing and confirming the royal wedding that occurred.
The boy was confused, his insecurities were nipping at him, but he was trying hard not to cry again.
He should trust Jeongguk, he'll come back.
'But how?' his mind nagged at him again, 'he's a married man now, he's not yours anymore'
Taehyung did want to believe that voice in his head. Jeongguk was his, wasn't he? He wouldn't lie to him like that. Not with those eyes.
Taehyung was glad that Jimin had brought him a shawl to cover his slight baby bump. Taehyung didn't want to risk anyone knowing.
They wouldn't let him leave.
Not when it was Jeongguk's child he was carrying, they would take his child away from him. He was sure. The matters of the throne were a nightmare he has lived.
He was grateful that Jimin was still accompanying him to the borders. He wouldn't ever forget his help or his kindness that he had offered.
They were lead to a stable where two already loaded horses were waiting for him.
He looked at Jimin surprised, but Jimin answered him without asking.
" Just in case...you know.." he said first looking at the ground and then at Taehyung, Taehyung too released a shaky exhale with little nod
" I can't leave you alone at a time like this, your majesty"
Taehyung really was grateful for having Jimin.
The castle was too busy, people where running around, everyone was absorbed in their own tasks to pay any attention to a carriage surrounded by soldiers and followed by two rideless horses.
They would be taken to the borders hidden away from prying eyes if there where any.
____________________The sun was setting, Jeongguk was still no where to be seen.
Jeongguk wouldn't come would he? Taehyung's tears had dried up now,
"Let's go" he said to Jimin who looked at him sympathetically but followed.
is how his love story ends?
But he'll begin a new life
