The first game of the season was this Friday and Delilah had never been more on edge. Between her fake flirting with Sirius and her real flirting with Laurie, the girl was drained.
So their she sat sitting in the Gryffindor common room drumming her fingers against couch as she stared into space when Remus plopped down next to her.
"What's wrong, cupcake?"
"Tonight's my study date with Laurie."
"So?"
"So I'm freaking out Remus! I don't even know he meant it as a date or if he sees the effect he has on me and thought 'Hey I could use her to boost my grade.'"
"So, it is a date dazzle him. And if it's not then let the word spread that your brilliant at transfiguration and make it a business."
Remus shrugged.
"You cheeky little werewolf."
Delilah pinched his cheek and headed up to her dorm to get ready for her study session.
Lily sat up in the dorm grumbling to herself when Delilah walked in.
"What's wrong, lily pad?"
Delilah said sitting down next to the sour redhead.
"That."
Lily grumbled glancing up at her amused friend.
"Don't call me that. Your prat brother called me that in front of Professor Bins and the whole class called me lily pad all of class and lunch. 'Lily pad, do you know the answer? Lily pad could you please pass the biscuits? Lily pad do the carpets match the drapes?"
"Please tell me that last one was not courtesy of my brother?"
"No, it was some Slytherin git."
"Sorry Lily do you want me to talk to him?"
"No, it's fine it's just he made me a laughing stalk! Here I am giving it my all to make a name for myself so people won't make fun of my blood status and your brother has to turn me into a joke!"
"He's a doofus! He was dropped on his head you know."
Lily chuckled and Delilah smiled knowing she got a smirk out of her.
"Thanks Delilah I'll be fine, I think I'm just going to stay up here for the rest of the night to avoid him and eat candy. Want to join me?"
"Oh uh I'd love to but I sort of have a study date..."
"With who?"
Delilah was hesitant in telling her, knowing some of Laurie's friends may have tormented Lily in the past for her background.
"Laurie Lestrange." She said sheepishly.
"The Laurie Lestrange? Like the fittest boy in Slytherin?"
Delilah chuckled dryly.
"You don't mind Laurie? I kind of thought you hated Slytherins. I know they make fun of you."
Lily waved her hand dismissively.
"Some of his friends but never Laurie himself. I think he's in the same boat Severus is in. He can't outright disagree with them because they'd make his life a living hell but that doesn't mean he agrees with them."
Severus Snape was a childhood friend of Lily's and an enemy of James Potter which meant he was an enemy to Delilah.
"Right well want to help me pick out an outfit?"
Lily clapped enthusiastically and began throwing clothes at her from her closet. Delilah didn't show it but she was giddy to finally have a friend who was female. Only ever really having guy friends at Hogwarts or girls who were only her friend because they were trying to get with one of the boys.
A half hour later Delilah was making her walk nervously to the library wearing a blue sweater and a pleated skirt, letting her curls cascade naturally down her back.
When she stepped into the library she was pleasantly surprised that Laurie was already there at a table in the back.

"Hey, Flower." The boy greeted with a grin.
Delilah's heart fluttered.
"H-hi Laurie."
"Please tell me you can help me, I'm hopeless at transfiguration."
"I can certainly try!"
Delilah stated a little to enthusiastically as she sat down.
She pulled out her notes and her wand.
"Right well let's see where you're at. This year we've been working on vanishing spells how're you with those?"
Laurie got out his wand, pointed it at his book and muttered and incantation. The book blinked in and out of existence in front of Delilah's eyes before staying put.
"Not bad. But your hand movement is off a bit. Try not to bend your wrist so much."
Delilah demonstrated the proper form and Laurie nodded. After about a half hour of trying and failing the vanishing spell Delilah decided it would be better to start with more basic spells and by the end of it concluded that Laurie was indeed helpless. He had every spell memorized and seemed to be a very well organized and attentive student but when it came to execution he lacked the skill.
"Right well, you almost had the beetle to button spell and it's almost curfew so I think now would be a good time to end it."
"Rushing off to meet your boyfriend?"
Delilah stopped packing her things and stared at the boy.
"N-no I don't-
"Relax I'm kidding, but uh is there anything going on between you and Black?"
"Sirius? No! He's just my brothers idiot best friend."
"Oh well he looks rather possessive of you. What about Lupin?"
At this Delilah giggled.
"Remus is just a friend, my best friend but I could never date him."
Laurie grinned to himself as he hoisted his bag onto his shoulder.
"Good to know. Same time next week?"
Delilah nodded smiling.
"Good luck against HufflePuff tomorrow!"
Laurie called over his shoulder as he exited the library.
Delilah couldn't wipe the loved up grin she wore on her face as she walked back to the Gryffindor common room.
Muttering the password to the fat lady she stepped into the common room, oblivious to the two boys who were occupying the couch by the fire.
"If it isn't my favorite little sister!"
James called out.
"I'm your only sister, James."
"I know which is why I'd like to know why you your showing up at this late hour wearing that doofus expression on your face."
"None of your business."
Sirius got up from his chair and made his way over to Delilah.
"No."
"I didn't say anything."
"Your wearing that face you make right before you say something vulgar or inappropriate and I'm telling you tonight I reject it because I'm ending it on a high note."
She walked to the base of the girls dormitory stairs and stopped before turning around to face the boys.
"See you on the pitch tomorrow boys."
And with that Delilah ascended the stairs head still full of Laurie Lestrange.
Brushing her teeth and throwing on her pajamas Delilah got into bed.
