Chapter 21: The Truth (Zach)

A day earlier before the New Cheif had been announced

I HAVE NO IDEA kung ano ang pinag sasasabi ni Liyah kahapon. Hindi ako yung sinasabi dun sa audio na pinarinig nya sa akin kahapon. I don't even know na yun pala ang sinabi sa kanya.

Totoo yung sinabi ko na nasa survillance ako nun. Kitang kita ko yung dalawang guard na kumatok dun at may pinag sasabihing hindi ko maintindihan.

I wanted to say her the truth, but she doesn't listen to me. I swear kapag na sabi ko na toh sasabihin ko na lahat ng sikreto ko. I swear.

Pero paano ko naman sasabihin sa kanya eh eto nga syang iwas ng iwas. Anong gagawin ko? Huh, I have no idea. But Ironically I needed to gain her trust again.

Should I use her weakness then? Maybe its time.

Today is the day that the higher ups will announce kung sino ang magiging bagong Cheif. I have a gut feel na baka si Rewis or Liyah ang magiging susunod. Well, no one knows.

Pababa na ako ng hagdan ng bigla kong makita si Liyah. Suddenly my traitor mouth called her.

"Liyah? Sandali." I said while running towards her.

Pero sa halip na lingunin nya ako mas nag lakad sya ng mabilis.

"Liyah, bakit mo ba ako iniiwasan?"

Still she keeps on walking.

Its time to use her weakness.

I suddenly grab her wrist and then I pinned her to the nearest wall

"Liyah, bakit mo ba ako iniiwasan?"

But still I heard no response from her. Her eyes has a eyebags and I knew I caused it.

All of sudden she's taking off my hands in the wall. Oh no, you won't escape me.

"Why do you keep on ignoring me?"

But still, sinusubukan parin nyang tanggalin ang kamay ko.

"Liyah, answer me." I said with my eyes full of  eagerness.

She didn't move, nor flinch. Nakatayo lang sya don. Sign na nakikinig sya.

"Liyah listen to me, please. Hindi ako yung tinutukoy nila. Maniwala ka naman."

Still she didn't respond. Maybe she's listening?

"Liyah, sinet up lang nila ako. Maniwala ka naman sa akin, please. Please lang." I said begging. Really begging.

"Liyah magsalita ka naman oh."

"Tapos kana ba? Kasi may pupuntahan pa ako."

I was shocked dahil sa sinabi nya. Hindi nya pa yun na sasabi sa akin kahit isang beses! Suddenly without realizing it, I'm suddenly taking of my hand against the wall. I lose. There's nothing I can do to make her believe again. Maybe I'll just wait a little bit longer.

While she's walking my traitor mouth said this words.

"Wag kang mag alala Liyah dahil hindi ako mag sasawang paulit ulitin kang isandal sa dingsing para lang makinig ka, at hindi rin ako mag sasawang paulit ulitin ang mga sinasabi ko  hanggang sa maniwala ka dito. Papansinin mo din ako Liyah, at kahit mag tagal pa yun wala akong pakialam."

I was shocked when I discovered what I said. Fvck anong sinabi ko? Oh shit.

Its getting late, mahuhuli ako sa announcement.

Pagpasok ko, nandun na nga ang higher ups. Patay. Buti nalang hindi ako na pansin.

"Good morning everyone. I know that some of you only saw us once. But we are only here to announce who will be the next Cheif. We all decided that the new Cheif is..................................... Rewis. Congratulations."

Wow. Congrats nalang Rewis.

A-ah, uhm, T-thank you everyone, you k-know, this is a great opportunity but also a scary one. As you all know, this position is one of the highest position, so its twin is danger. I never thought that this position will be mine. Ironically, I thought that this position will be granted to Liyah. I mean she's tough, strong, genious and especially has this." Sabi nya sabay turo sa puso nya. "But still I'm honoured because this position was given to me. Thank you everyone. I'll do everything so that everything went well."

Wait a minute, akala nya si Liyah ang susunod? Bakit?

So without anyone noticing, I eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Congrats Mate."

"Thanks."

"Ano ba yung pinag sasabi mo? Bakit puro tungkol sa akin?"

"Kasi akala ko talaga ikaw ang pipiliin. Aish. Bakit kasi ako?"

Yeah right.

"Ayaw mo ba?"

"Gusto ko syempre. Sino ba naman ang aayaw dun, pero sa ilang taon na pagiging detective ko at pagiging police, hindi ko naman to hiniling."

Wow matagal kana sa serbisyo kaya wag nyang sabihin na hindi nya to ginusto.

"Alam ko. Pero ito ata ang naka tadhana sayo eh."

"Maybe. Pero wait, bakit ayaw mong maging Cheif kahit ikaw ang piliin nila?"

"Sa totoo, hindi ito ang pangarap ko, maybe that's why."

"Kung ganon, anong pangarap mo?"

I faced him. "I wanted to be a lawyer."

'I wanted to be a lawyer.' It echoed to my mind.

Kung gusto nyng maging Lawyer, bakit nya pinili ang profession na to? Hindi nya naman pala to career eh. And then I remembered what she said to me.

'I wanted to take revenge to Marcus.'

Oh yeah, that's why.

Maybe nasaktan talaga sya ng sobra sobra ni marcus. And I wanted him to feel the same.
