The nightmare

Snufkin awoke that morning with a jolt, frantically looking from side to side to check his surroundings.
Once he finally steadied his breathing, he pinched himself to make sure he was really awake this time, and-ow, okay he was awake, yup.
'Thank goodness' he thought.

It had been a long time since he had a nightmare like that, and he was understandably shaken up about it. Even worse, just as he felt safe-
"snufkin, wake up! The sun is out and you're still in bed!!" Little My hollered from outside his tent, scaring the daylights out of him. "I'll be out when I feel like it!" He grumbled, his anxiety clear in his voice.

'Why does she have to be so loud this early' he thought as he packed the last of his belongings into his backpack. Don't get him wrong, he doesn't mind his sister, and he's fine with her being around most of the time. However, when your only half awake, perhaps the best person to let you wake up properly isn't the same person who is prone to jump out of bushes at the drop of a hat.

As he tied his shoes, he attempted to regain his composure, to no avail.
He exited his tent as quietly as possible, hoping he could sneak out undetected.
Alas, it was not to be, and no sooner had he zipped up the entrance to his tent did he hear " morning sleepy head, get enough shut eye? "
"Hardly." He responded, quickly spinning on his heel and walking off in the direction of the bridge.
On any normal day, he would be able to tolerate his older sisters attitude. On a normal day, a silly little nightmare wouldn't have effected him so much. Today was, however, not a normal day. At the moment, snufkin wanted nothing more than to have some peace and quiet to collect his thoughts.

Luckily for him, moominmamma saved the day.
"Little my, would you like to help me mix the muffin batter?" She called from the open window, prompting little my to sprint on ahead of him in the hopes of getting some extra batter off the spoon.

"Bless you moominmamma" he spoke under his breath, letting out a shaky sigh of relief as he entered moominhouse.
"Think nothing of it dear. Please help yourself to some coffee, the pot just finished heating."
Moominmamma was really a remarkable moomin. She somehow always knew if someone was feeling off and how to help.
Snufkin nodded thankfully to moominmamma before pouring himself a cup.
He blew on the cup a little to cool it, letting the heat from the steam warm his face.
It may be spring in moominvalley, but it was certainly by no means warm yet. Especially this early in the morning.
Snufkin leaned against the counter as he sipped his coffee, and though the nightmare still hadn't left his mind, he felt a little bit less shaky.

That is, until a loud THUD from by the stairs nearly made him jump out of his skin.
Little my snickered quietly at snufkins jumpy behavior, which only served to fuel his embarrassment.
Little my looked like she wanted to say something, but she was cut off by the sound of a pained groan from near where the thud was.
"Dear, I fell down the steps, could you please help me get up?" Spoke what was undoubtedly the voice of moominpappa.
" oh dear." Spoke mamma, who rushed over to help him.
Snufkin and my could hear the muffled conversation between mamma and Pappa from the other room. Something about being more careful when carrying books down the stairs.
Little My saw this as a good time to ask her question.

<(("Hey snufkin, do you have ligma?"
lMAO no, she didn't say that, but she absolutely would.)) >

"You seem jumpier than usual today, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?" She inquired, loudly crunching chocolate chips directly from the bag like a gremlin.
"That really isn't any of your business." He replied curtly.
"Also, aren't those chocolate chips supposed to be for the muffin batter?"

"I'll pry the answer out of you eventually." She said, grabbing another handful and chucking them into her mouth like if she was eating popcorn. The sound made snufkin wince with disgust.
"Besides," she started, before depositing the bag on the counter and jumping down "moominmamma isn't going to miss a few handfuls of chocolate chips, is she?" And with that, she headed upstairs, leaving a thoroughly bewildered snufkin alone in the kitchen.
