Violet practically kicked open the front door to her house, she danced up the hall to the music blaring from her phone. She picked up a loaf of bread, tossing it up and catching it before throwing a slice into the toaster. The only thing that was interrupting her good mood was the fact she hadn't eaten since two o'clock and it was now half-past twelve.
Violet took one of her records off the shelf and placed it delicately onto the player, lining up the needle on the outside of the rotating disc. She paused the song on her phone and navigated to her contacts, tapping on Louis's name and beginning a call.
"Violet?" A groggy Louis answered.
"Hey Lou, guess what?" Violet said enthusiastically.
"Is your house on fire?"
"What, no?."
"Were you robbed? Stabbed? Hit by a bus?"
"No, what the fuck are you talking about?"
"It must be important for you to call me right after my shift when I was just getting to sleep."
Unsurprisingly, Louis maintained his quick wit even when sleep deprived.
"Whatever, just listen and you can go back to sleep."
He mumbled something that sounded like affirmation.
"You were totally right about Clementine." she paused to slather the now cooked toast with butter.
"Wait, you asked her out? Dude, tell me everything." Louis said excitedly, seeming to have woken up suspiciously fast.
"We went out tonight, she said she had a really good time...."
"And? Did anything happen?"
"She uhhh...kissed me." Violet said, smiling to herself, recounting the memory.
"Woo-hoo, go Violet!" He yelled into the phone, making Violet jump.
"So, are you seeing her again?"
Violet bit into the toast, tearing off a chunk and chewing it.
"Yeah, she said she wanted to go out again next week."
She didn't bother fighting the wide grin that came across her face. It had been a while since she had felt this happy. Violet had approached everything with a cynical outlook for the longest time, too afraid to get her hopes up lest she be disappointed, like she was used to. With regards to Clementine however, she felt like nothing could the girl did could ever make her feel anything other than happy.
"Fuck yeah, Vi. See what happens when you take my advice?"
"Yeah, yeah, you were right. Get over yourself." She said through a mouthful of toast.
"For real though, I'm happy for you. You gotta introduce us to Clementine when we go to the bar next."
"And risk scaring her off? Not gonna happen." Violet laughed.
"Ouch. On that wonderful note, I'm going to bed. You need to fill me in on all the juicy details another time though." He said, yawning as if to prove a point.
"Alright, goodnight."
"Night."
Louis hung up and Violet devoured the last of her toast. She took the needle off the record player and sauntered off to her room, taking her socks off and throwing them on the ground before jumping face first onto her bed. Violet rolled onto her back and smiled, thinking about Clementine. She couldn't wait to see her again.

The door clicked shut and Clementine stepped into the lounge. James was sitting on the couch watching the TV with the volume low.
"Hi, Clementine. AJ's asleep."
"Hey James, thanks so much for looking after him." Clem said earnestly, throwing her keys on the cabinet by the door.
"I take it things went well?" James said with a half smirk.
"Things definitely did."
"I can tell from how you're wearing her hoodie."
Clementine's face became flushed, she laughed nervously and sat down on the couch.
"What's she like?" James asked.
Clem bit her lower lip and smiled off into the distance.
"She's amazing."
James handed her a mug of coffee that was sitting on the coffee table, she took it and sipped the warm drink.
"That's great Clementine, maybe I'll get to meet her someday."
"Im sure you will." She chuckled, taking another sip of coffee.
"I better head out. I've got work tomorrow and I should let you get some sleep too."
James stood up and headed for the door. Clementine hugged him, patting his back.
"Thanks again for looking after AJ."
"Any time, goodnight Clementine."
"Goodnight James."
She shut the door behind him and sat back down to finish the mug of coffee. The TV quietly played something completely inexplicable, a television show wherein contestants jumped off inflatable balls suspended over a pool.
Clem wasn't the least bit interested, but left the TV on for background noise. Her thoughts were otherwise occupied by the events of the night. When she had arrived earlier, she had no idea whether she would kiss Violet or not. By the time they were on the roof however, it became clear to her. She liked Violet, more than she had liked anyone before.
The first time she met Gabe came to mind. She had thought he was somewhat cute, but until they got to know each other she wasn't interested in anything more than friendship. With Violet however, she had felt an attraction since taking her order at the bar.
There was certain things about her that Clementine immediately found endearing. Maybe it was the way her hair fell, framing her face and just barely covering one eye. It could have been her soft voice, reminiscent of someone who had just woken up. For whatever reason, Clementine found Violet's signature lilt very attractive.
She didn't feel like boiling it down to an exact science, she liked Violet and she didn't care why. Clem took her hat off and pulled up the hood of Violet's sweatshirt, getting comfortable  on the couch while she finished the final dregs of coffee.
