D E S C R I P T I O N

Title, cover, and description: Ask yourself how eye catching these items are and whether they would make you want to choose to read the book. Do all these things relate and make sense to the story? Does the blurb have any mistakes and does it summarize the story well?

Grammar, spelling, and organization: Ask yourself how you think the overall organization of the book is. Are the chapters labeled or organized in a way that fits the story? Are all the words spelled correctly with punctuation in the right places? Does it make sense?

Plot and overall story: This one is what you think of the book as a whole. If you were a reader instead of a judge, does reading a little bit of the book make you want to continue reading? Does the plot advance smoothly?

This judging criteria descriptions may help but at the end, these decisions are up to the judges. How do you, as a judge, feel about the book? How many chapters you read is something I want to leave completely up to you. The minimum requirement of chapters a judge should read is 3 unless it is a short story but however long you need to read to make a decision, is the length you need to read!
