Title: Finally
y/n
"Please mom can I go to a game?" I beg her. "y/n we just can't afford it right now" she says. "okay" I say sadly walking out of the kitchen. The flashback plays in my head as I prepare myself to ask my mom for tickets to see the Memphis Grizzlies play. Grayson Allen has been my role model for years, and he is by far my favorite player. I've supported him since we was in college. In 2018, when he got drafted to Utah, I knew I'd never get the chance to see him play. Then, he got traded to Memphis and I had higher hopes.
Memphis is much closer to my hometown than Utah, so I asked for tickets every birthday and Christmas. Unfortunately, my family could never afford them. Now, the income in my house has risen and we are taking a vacation to Tennessee. My parents didn't tell me where but either way i'm so excited. Theres a chance I could meet Grayson.
I fell asleep on the drive there but Suddenly I woke up when were jolted to a stop. "The hell?" I question. "Y/n language!" my mom exclaims. "Sorry mom. But what happened?" I ask. "Someone in front of us crashed but your father wasn't playing attention and he didn't see." She scolds him. "I'm sorry m/n jesus what more do you want me to say?!" He begins.
I sigh, knowing an argument is coming. I put in my AirPods and turn my music all the way up. I zone out while looking out the window. I see a sign. "Welcome to Memphis" I read. "holy shit" I mutter under my breath. I brought money with me, planning to buy a few dumb knick-knacks to keep to remember the trip.
Now, I had other plans for my money. I went online Immediately and bought tickets for a home game which was 2 days from now. After buying the ticket, I had enough to buy a jersey too. "Mom can I go to the mall?" I ask her. "Sure. Take the car and be careful" She says. "Okay I will" I say grabbing the keys and leaving the hotel room.
I pull up directions to the nearest mall and blast music until I get there. I pull into the parking lot and wander around, looking for a store that sells sports wear. Finally, I come across a store called Champs. I walk in and don't see what I'm looking for. I leave after looking at a few other things. Then, I come to a Dick's Sporting Goods. I walk in and go to the NBA section. I see the signature blue color and a smile covers my face.
I rush over and begin to search for a number 3 Jersey. I find them and grab my size. The back of it being perfectly stitched. Allen written above the number 3. I smile as I try it on, just to make sure it fits. It does. I check the tag. $45.90. Not bad. I walk to the register and check out. I walk into a few other stores and I get a few other things too. I walk back to my car and freak out. I'm gonna get to see my idol play in only 2 days!
I arrive back at the hotel and grab my bags. I step into the elevator and see a really tall guy. I look over and its none other than Grayson himself. I try to contain my excitement, so I don't freak him out. "Uhm, are you Grayson Allen?" I ask quietly. I hear him chuckle as he looks down at me. "Yeah, the one and only." He laughs. "Uhm I'm coming to the game in a few days. I just bought a jersey." I say awkwardly, not wanting to seem weird.
"Really? Thats awesome. I hope I see you. I can, like- sign the jersey if you want" He says, suddenly nervously. "That'd be awesome. I think I have a marker" I sag as I dig through my bag. "I got one" He says. I pull the jersey out of my bag and hand it to him. He holds it against the wall and signs the middle of the number 3. It has his signature and it says "Go grizzlies" next to it in smaller writing. I see him flip the inside out, and he writes on the inside of the 3 as well.
Eventually, we get to the 22nd floor, which is where he was going. He steps off and says a simple "bye. see you at the game." I smile to myself as I check the inside of the jersey, checking what he wrote. "I never got your name, so I'm gonna come find you at the game" I smile as I read it, but I don't get my hopes up. He'll probably forget.
~the game~
I arrive at the FedExForum and look around in awe. I see the large blue Grizzly in the middle of the floor and smile. I'm really here. This is really happening I think to myself. The arena begins to get fuller and fuller as each minute nearing the game passes. After about 20 minutes, The team runs out. I see my favorite players, Ja and Grayson and a smile covers my face immediately. I see Grayson's eyes wander, as if he is looking for someone. My wandering eyes then meet a pair of icy blue ones.
"Hey" he mouths to me with a smile. I smile and wave. He runs over and we talk for a minute. "So your name?" He asks me. "Y/n" I giggle. "Pretty. I gotta go" He says and smiles. "Alright. Do good." I say to him and wink. I could swear I saw his cheeks flush red before he turned away to go get ready. I see the team huddle up as the other team does as well. Two large groups of very talented guys, both groups wanting nothing more than to claim victory against the other.
It is now halftime, and Grayson has been doing amazing. He'a scored at least 5 three-pointers, and he's only missed 2 shots all night. After the guys come back out, theres still a few minutes left. He comes over to me and we start talking. "You're doing amazing!" I say to him, a smile on my face. "Thanks. Gotta look good when a cute girl is watching!" He says, winking before he walks away.
I feel the blood rush to my cheeks and a smile covers my face. Then, I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see a girl not much older than me. "Can you stop flirting with him? Jesus you're a hideous slut and he'll forget about you after tonight" She says, scoffing and rolling her eyes. I felt a slight sting in my heart at her words, but I turn around, and plaster a smile back onto my face.
Unfortunately, I'm a terrible actor. Anyone who knows me even a little bit could tell something was wrong.
Third Person
Grayson knew something had changed about y/n's upbeat and happy mood. Her smile looked fake as she cheered him on. He let it be. For now. He planned to catch her after the game and find out what happened. By the final, Memphis won by 50 points. The final score was 148-98. Grayson bad scored a countless number of points and y/n was beyond proud, although she still had a sting in her heart from what the girl had said to her before.
Grayson
"Hey, y/n" I call out and see her turn around. Instantly, a smile that was obviously fake crossed her face. "Grayson! You did amazing" Her voice full of fake enthusiasm. "Thanks. Are you okay?" I see her eyes flash hurt, but go back to the normal happy. "Yeah, I'm great." She says with a laugh. "What happened y/n?" I question, knowing shes not being honest."Some girl behind me told me to stop flirting with you.. And she called me- She called me a slut. A hideous slut. She said you'd forget about me after tonight." She says, her eyes becoming teary. She thought I was gonna forget her..? "Hey," I begin. "What makes you think I'm gonna forget you?" I ask her. "You're Grayson Allen. You meet thousands of people like me. And I bet you don't remember them." She says sniffling. "You're not like everyone else. You're funny, and you don't treat me like 'Grayson Allen, the basketball player.' You treat me like an actual human being. To you, I'm 'Grayson. The nice guy from the elevator' and No one else sees that" I say, being as serious as ever.
"To everyone else, I'm a star Duke player who's career went down the drain because he was wrongly accused of tripping other players. But you don't see me that way." I say.
Third Person POV
Grayson was right. Y/n knew it. After their conversation, he pulls her in for a hug, lifting her over the barrier, pulling her onto the court. "I'm not gonna forget you" He says, placing her down and kissing her cheek. They exchanged numbers and talked daily for months before Grayson asked her out. Y/n was close to 18 when they met, so age was no problem. On her 18th birthday, she left. She told Grayson she was moving to Memphis. She had her own apartment for a while. After about 2 years, she moved in with Grayson and their relationship continued to blossom.Wc: 1643
