Chapter nineteen: Batman
Harmony's POV:
After I left the homeless soup kitchen, serving all the sandwiches me and Bruce made, I walked the streets alone back to my dirty small apartment. I didn't see Ruth outside her door which I found strange since it was around her time to have a smoking break, but I didn't worry myself about it too much.
Instead I found my landlord waiting at my door squinting at me.
"I have a reputation to uphold in my building miss Jackson, I don't care if your dating some fancy shmancy billionaire."
"What is it now," I groaned, not in any particular mood to deal with him right now.
"The police commissioner himself showed up here this morning asking me where you were, I haven't had an incident with the police for a whole year until now, it scared away a potential tenant"
"Boohoo."
His nose curled up in anger "not boohoo, if this happens again I'm going to be kicking you out of here."
My eyes widened "you what? You can't do that, I work for the commissioner. I've been here for over five years?"
"You'd better tell the commissioner that if he shows up he again, your going to be out."
He walked past me coming within inches of knocking me with his shoulder. I grit my teeth and stumbled onward to the door, shaking with rage. What do I get for being nice to the community and having a job to support myself? I get abused, physically, emotionally, and financially.
"Prick," I whispered under my breath, as I looked in the direction of my landlord waddling down the stairs.
Inside my apartment I fell down on the couch and lifted my feet onto my coffee table. I pulled my cell phone out of my purse and read that I had not one, not two, but thirty missed calls from my new boss. I wasted no time pressing the callback button.
"For God sakes what will it take for you to answer the phone?"
"I'm so sorry, I was with Bruce, I forgot to look at it."
A heard Gordon whisper something inaudible on the other end of the line "we'll at least your on now, there's something I need you to do, I have to talk in person."
"Where do you want to meet?"
"My office, as soon as possible."
I wasted no time changing out of my clothes and putting my hair in a firm ponytail to try and control it's messiness. Downstairs I jumped into my boring silver car, which paled in comparison to the one I drove last night.
Within a time of about forty five minutes of the call I got, I was rushing through the police station, past the woman at the desk- who I neglected to smile back at- and quickly shut the door to the Commissioner's office.
Gordon was pacing the room even before I got there, and had is eyes on his wrist watch prior to seeing me. When he did acknowledged my presence, he waved me over closer to his desk. Behind his chair was a widow out into the station, which he shut and peeked through nervously.
"What's going on?" I asked, honestly not wanting to be the receiver of such urgent information.
"Bad stuff, I needed to trust someone who I know isn't spitting word out to the Joker or even any other sort of crime lord."
"So you picked me? A former news photographer, and someone employed to you for just over a period of 36 hours, actually I'm not even sure I really work here?"
