It was his birthday when it happened, Christmas was just around the corner. Leonard decided to take him to a Christmas festival while he could. That's all Kōfuku really wanted for Christmas. He always wanted to go to a festival. Leonard sat on a bench next to Kōfuku after giving him some coffee jelly. Leonard thought it was strange how such a young child could like such a food, but it was one of the only things he showed a passion for eating. "Hurry up, the parade is about to stop." Leonard said. Kōfuku nodded before eating faster, too fast for Leonard's liking. "Slow down a little though, you'll choke." Leonard said as his eyebrows furrowed. Kōfuku finished eating and threw his trash away. It was already snow on the ground but it had just started to snow once more. Kōfuku's nose started to turn red from the cold. Leonard saw this and took his scarf off and wrapped it around Kōfuku's neck. He didn't really need it anyway.
"You'll catch a cold." Leonard said. The parade had begun. That much was clear as the two felt the buzz of energy increase from the crowd around them. As they made their way through the crowd, Kōfuku started to realize that he wouldn't be able to see much of the parade through the tall pedestrians. He tapped Leonard on the shoulder and frowned. "Sorry kid." Leonard chuckled. "Come on, let's find a better view." Leonard said. Kōfuku followed closely behind as Leonard walked through crowds of people. He stopped when he seen a nice rooftop with a railing on it. "Excuse me, is this your kid?" A random woman asked Leonard. Leonard looked down at Kōfuku then at the woman. "Yeah." Leonard replied. "He's so cute!" The woman smiled. Kōfuku just looked at her, then he hid his face into the dark purple scarf that Leonard gave him. "Sorry, he gets a bit shy around strangers. But I bet he wants to say thank you." Leonard said. "Its fine. And you're welcome. Have a good time at the festival." The woman said with a smile before walking off. Leonard started walking towards the alleyway that led to the building he saw earlier. "Come on kid." Leonard said as he picked Kōfuku up and used his power to fly them both to the roof. Kōfuku always thought it was weird when his uncle used his powers outside of work but he didn't say anything.
It didn't take too much time or energy to get onto the roof. Leonard put Kōfuku down not too far away from the railing once they were back on solid ground. The railing was sturdy enough and It didn't seem old or rusty. Kōfuku ran up to the railing and looked between the bars. "Don't fall of kid." Leonard chuckled as he walked up to the railing. The parade was beautiful from this view. The building wasn't too tall but it was at a perfect angle. The lanterns and lights from the parade lit up the night sky. There were so many good smells in the air. Everything just seemed alright. Kōfuku was so mesmerized by it all. Seeing his awestruck face brought a warm feeling to Leonard's heart. "So how do you like the festival?" Leonard asked as he looked down at Kōfuku. Kōfuku didn't answer at first, he just continued stare down at everyone and everything in the festival. "Hey kid, are you okay? Kōfuku?" Leonard asked as he crouched down to his level. Kōfuku looked at him and his lips slowly curled into a smile. That smile slowly turned into a grin. Leonard was shocked. He had never seen Kōfuku smile in all these months of taking care of him.
"You're so cool Uncle Leo! Thank you for taking me here!"
Leonard was beyond shocked. He didn't know what to say. His confusion grew even more when Kōfuku hugged him. "Kōfuku... did you just talk?" Leonard asked. Kōfuku giggled at the question. Kōfuku let him go and looked down at the parade street. It's not that Leonard thought that Kōfuku didn't how speak but that was the first time he heard him say anything. "Can we get some candy apples?" Kōfuku asked. Leonard patted him on the head and smiled. "Sure." He said.
Now
Kōfuku walked into the garden. The grass was green and there were beautiful flowers on the ground. Leonard was standing under a tree, his eyes were closed as he felt the soft breeze that went by. Kōfuku smiled noticing how at peace his uncle looked. He walked up to him and leaned on the tree. "You did always liked taking care of your garden, it's no surprise that this one looks well kept." Kōfuku said. Leonard's eyes widened as he turned around. "Good morning." Kōfuku greeted. "Kōfuku... good morning. When did you get here?" Leonard asked. "Not too long ago. I came because our Captain is worried about our rookies and he sent me and some other members to check on them. I thought while I was here, I might as well come see you." Kōfuku explained. Leonard chuckled. "It's been a while, I suppose I can't scold you for doing this." Leonard said.
