"Over here, please" I told the man who was holding the other side of the couch with me. He was the manager of the shifting department or something i guess. I wonder why he is helping along. Isn't he supposed to just manage everything?
It has been somewhat like 3 hours since my mum and I reached our new home and were organizing everything with the help of the employees who helped us in shifting. "This is sooo tiring... Thank God this is the last one" I said to myself after placing the couch in the right place.
"Its really great seeing someone sweet and helpful like you, kid," smiled the man who helped me place the sofa the correct position of the living room.
"Well, thank you. Its really nice to hear that but you all are the people that we should thank, for helping us organize almost everything, not the other way around. Why are you all doing it anyways? Its not like I am complaining or anything but i am just curious" I said while drinking water from a nearby bottle.
"Well, my best friend would not like it if i left his wife and daughter alone to organize everything by themselves. Would he?" Said the man while looking at me with adoration.
"No way!" I was shocked.
He smiled mildly.
"Yes way" said my mum coming back from the kitchen after fixing the dishes.
"So you are Mr. Eric Stewart, that childhood best friend of dad who once told my parents 'Just date already' when they were working on a Biology Project together?" I asked, curiosity filling my voice.
Both him and my mum started laughing.
When he stopped laughing he said," That Biology Project was just an excuse... They weren't working on the project... More like flirting with each other" he said which made me smile.
I looked at my mum. She was smiling, while remembering those old sweet memories of them together.
"Anyways, i am going to make some coffee for everyone. Everyone must be tired." mum informed me and i nodded in return.
She is an independent woman and most probably the strongest person I know, with the kindest heart ever. I really am blessed to have someone like her as my mother.
"So this answers my question... You are Mr. Eric, my dad's best friend which now explains the reason why you are helping us in shifting. Why didn't you tell me that when we met?" I said turning towards Mr. Eric.
Ignoring my question he said,"You seem like a great kid. Your dad would be so proud and happy right now. Infact i believe he is. I know this is not easy for you. Believe me it is not easy for any one of us. But i will always be one call away whenever you need me. Your mum is like my younger sister. I know she has been through a lot after your dad passed away but she has been strong for you and i need you to know that he always loved you two and will always do no matter what."
Dad is the reason we moved here. We wanted to start a new chapter of our lives. Living in my hometown would be hard for both my mum and I. I really miss him. I miss him everyday. I know how much he loved us and i have to be strong for him... My throat clenched. I won't cry. I won't cry. I won't cry. I reminded myself.
I picked my head up and smiled at him saying," Thank you. It means a lot to me. I am really very greatful to you."Surprisingly my voice didn't crack.
"Thank you, Eric for everything. You and your employees really helped us a lot. We really could not have done so much thing in one day without your help"mum said while handing him the last coffee cup left on the tray. Seems like she didn't hear us.
"Pftt... It was not a very big deal anyways. And please stop thanking me. I am already feeling terrible because you are paying me for all this." He said while sipping his coffee and sounding defeated.
"This is you job, Eric. You make a living out of it. How can i not pay you?" mum argued back.
Before he could even answer, a voice said "Mr.Stewart, everything is in its place. I feel like everything is done" It was one of his employees.
"Alright, Kyle. Its impressive to know how less of a time it took for us to organize everything." Mr. Eric replied to that employee seeming happy.
"And not to mention, this coffee is absolutely amazing, Mrs. Evans (Scarlett's mum). Thank you for serving this" Kyle (one of the employees) said to mum and everyone nodded and hummed in response.
"As always," i said.
"She is an amazing cook," i complimented.
"Aww... Its really so nice of you" said mum.
Then Mr.Stewart came towards me, patted my head and said," It was really nice meeting you young lady... And obviously you too Sarah."
We smiled back and said," It was really nice meeting you too."
And then we bid everbody goodbye after thanking and paying them...
"Welcome to a new chapter of our life," I breathed out and we enter our new home.
