I watched as he ran away from me. I rolled over wincing as I started propping myself up. As I pulled my legs under me, an acute pain shot through my side. He was out of sight by now but I wasn't going to let him get away. I pried the shard of glass from my hip and stood slowly, letting everything settle back into its original spot. I picked up the 22 millimeter pistol laying on the rooftop next to next to me and limped to the edge of the 6 story building. Leaping to the next building was going to hurt but I had to do it.
I hobbled to the other side of the rooftop and turned around. I tucked the pistol in my hoodie pocket and zipped it, preparing to run and hurdle the air in between the building I was standing on and the 10 story building I was jumping onto. Building up my courage, I started the 30 foot run. Using the edge of the building, I vaulted off of the brick into the frisk, foggy night air.Landing with a thud and probably waking up some people in the process, I lightly brushed myself off checking my hip that was mostly healed except a little gash that would be gone in about 2 minutes. I turned around and noticed I had been inches from landing in a giant fan vent that some irresponsible worker probably left the cover off of.
Reversing around to the sound of someone clanking down the fire escape stairwell, I leapt up and sprinted to the other side of the building stepping down onto the fire escape. I ran down the stairs slamming into the railing at every turn. I jumped over the edge when I got close to the bottom, dropping down onto the ground landing softly.
Listening both ways and smelling the air in the dark ally, I heard the faint sound of running and smelled a hint of blood. I decided that he had went left. I started jogging knowing that it wouldn't take long to catch up with him.
