Katniss tried to ignore the quiet whispers from the two boys, Finnick's hands still tentatively ghosting over Quinn's neck."Looks pretty rough," she called over her shoulder.
Quinn hummed, ignoring the soreness it caused him to make noise.
"Gloss is a meathead, if he really wanted to kill me he should've done a better job."
"God, it's hot," Peeta huffed ahead of them. Quinn softly pushed Finnick away from him, creeping closer behind Peeta as he continued to slice through the vines and woods. "We gotta find fresh water."
Quinn jumped at the sound of a cannon, Finnick's laughter instantly easing his posture.
"Well, I guess they're not holding hands anymore."
"You think that's funny?"
"Katniss," Quinn scoffed, "that's one last person you have to kill."
"Every time that cannon goes off it's music to my ears. I don't care about any of them," Finnick continued.
"Good to know," she huffed.
"Relax, darling—"
In a split second, Katniss had an arrow under Quinn's chin, the bowstring pulled back down by her hip.
The Killian merely laughed, ignoring Finnick's terror filled features. He pressed his chin down on the arrow, drawing blood as he grinned wildly at the girl.
"By all means, Katniss. Let it fly."
"Katniss—"
"Don't listen to him," Quinn silenced Finnick's protests. "Kill me, and Finnick will kill you and lover boy, go find Jordan and ally with her."
Katniss remained silent, jaw clenched as Quinn leaned closer to her.
"That's what you do when you're really in love," he whispered. "You'd murder a whole city just out of spite. Let me ask you this, girl on fire. If I killed Peeta, do you think you'd lose your mind in this arena?"
Katniss' eyes fell from Quinn's, the bow falling slack in her hands as a scream ripped from her.
"Peeta, no!"
Without a warning, for a second time, Quinn was knocked off his feet. Peeta had hit the force field, flying backward and colliding with Quinn.
"Peeta! Peeta!"
Quinn's ears were ringing but he could hear Katniss sobbing, Finnick hovering over the man and pressing his palms into his chest.
"Baby." Quinn could hear Finnick's panicked voice as he continued giving CPR to Peeta. "Baby, can you hear me?"
Quinn nodded softly at Finnick's voice, the wind having been knocked out of him.
As he struggled for breath, he hardly noticed Katniss reaching out to him, softly pressing her hands to his back to try and help him sit up.
