Holding hands, the two young women wandered in the snow together. They only walked by a few people.
Suddenly, Jamie stopped. She looked questioning at a woman approaching them, almost as she seemed to recognize her.
The woman looked up and stopped to look at Jamie too, as if they were trying to place each other's faces. She had short blonde hair and beautiful green eyes.

"Jamie?!"

"Wait, Anna? No fucking way!"

Dani just stood beside them as they embraced each other. Anna... She knew she recognized that name from somewhere.

"It's been ages! What are you doing here, I thought you moved to Australia or something!"

"Yeah, I did. And then Paris, and then Morocco for a while, and a couple of years ago I moved here. Or not here exactly, I've mostly lived in New York. Well, enough about me, what about you? What are you doing in Vermont, and who is this?"

Jamie's friend, Anna, smiled nodded at Dani who looked a little lost.

" Well uhm... This is Dani, and she is my girlfriend, actually. She's American, and we met at this big manor we both used to work in, but then it just.. It got a little much so we decided to leave and then I guess we just ended up here," Jamie shrugged her shoulders and smiled at her girlfriend.

" Jamie, you finally did it! I always knew you would find someone!"

Dani still felt a little left out when the two old friends stood there catching up.
Then suddenly she remembered where she recognized the name. Anna. Jamie's old best friend from school, one of few people she actually liked when she was younger. Also, her first real crush.
The au pair couldn't help to feel a little jealous, even though she told her self that it was so long ago. She had never really seen Jamie with any of her friends except the ones they both knew.

" So what are you doing tonight then?" Anna asked them. " Big christmas party I assume, you Americans like those right?" she laughed and Jamie joined in.

She bothered Dani. Why did she make fun of her? She finally took the courage to say something.

" No, actually we're keeping it small, we're just gonna stay home and watch a movie or something."

"Oh, that sounds fun! Well then I should probably not interrupt your nice afternoon."

" No, you're not interrupting anything," Jamie assured her. " Hey, why don't you join us?"

" Oh no, I couldn't, you already had plans with each other!"

" Bullshit, we would love to have you!" the gardener said and turned to her girlfriend. "Right, Dani?"

I'd rather not, but sure, make plans without checking with me before, she thought.

" Absolutely, that would be great," she said.

They had come back to the apartment a while ago, and were now sitting at the table, eating a very non-christmasy thing, pasta. It was the only thing Dani and Jamie could make for their guest without making her sick.
The couple sat next to each other and Anna on the other side.

Dani still felt a little left out, even though Anna asked her tons of questions about small things, like where she grew up and stuff like that. It was nice that she wanted to get to know me, but I got tired of it eventually and started giving her shorter answers.
She was very chatty, didn't really seem like the type of person Jamie would be friends with.

They, mostly Jamie and Anna continued to talk about things and Dani mostly listened. The au pair had to admit that it was a little interesting to hear about Jamie's old life.

"I just have to say that this is a lovely dinner!" Anna said. " We've come a long way, haven't we Jamie? Sitting here, talking about life. Not like when we used to hang out in my dad's garage and getting stoned," she laughed.

Jamie laughed too.

Dani was still not very happy about this. Anna seemed like a lovely person, but she didn't like when her girlfriend gave another woman all the attention. Especially since she'd had a crush on that woman for years. God, she felt so childish, getting jealous about an ex. Not even an ex, they didn't even date or do anything. Dani tried to remember when Jamie told her about Anna, and she thought she remembered her saying that she never even told Anna about the crush.

Then Anna excused herself, and asked where the bathroom was.

" The second door over there," Dani answered shortly.

" What's up?" Jamie asked when she heard the bathroom door being locked.

"Nothing, I mean I'm just having dinner with you and your best friend." Dani answered with a lot of passive aggressiveness.

"Do you not like Anna?"

" Keep your voice down, she'll hear us! But of course I do, how could you not? She traveled the world, she has perfect blonde hair and she's always so happy." Dani rolled her eyes slightly.

The gardener stared at the au pair, and realized. She smirked and raised her eyebrows slightly.

" Poppins, are you jealous?"

" What, no I'm not!"

Jamie couldn't help but laugh a little.

"Shhh! She's still in there," Dani whispered.

She continued to laugh a little quieter, and after a few seconds Dani couldn't help but laugh too, even though she was still a little mad at her.

The door to the bathroom opened.

" Oi, what are you two lovebirds smiling about?"

" Oh nothing," Jamie said.

"Well I better get going," Anna said.

" No you don't have too, you can stay as long as you like," Jamie offered, receiving a angry stare .

"No I should probably go, I have to be somewhere soon anyways."
