Your roommate

You open your eyes the sun shinning through the slats in your blinds, blinding you. "Ahhhh the sun it burns," you scream rolling in your covers to become a burrito in your fluffy dark blue blanket and instead rolling off your bed in a tangle of blankets and sheet. You clutch your chest poke your arm through the blanket stretching towards the sky, "Alas the sun has vanquished me yet again." It's at this point that you hear the sound of slippers shuffling into your room and a yawn. "Wha.....Why are you on the floor" the disembodied voice moans slash giggles. You poke your head out the mass of blankets and sheets and give a huge smile. "The sun hath attakeded me and won yet again", you wiggle out of the blanket wearing a dingy t-shirt that was once white and is no longer white, but more of that you washed it with a pair of black denim because you were in rush, which is exactly what happened, and a pair of baby pink sweats that somehow one leg of your pants is pushed up around your knee. Your roommate walks up to you and pushes your mess of hair out of your eyes, puts his arms around your shoulder, gets down to your level while leaning in close. "You are such a dork", and flicks your forehead. You smile again while rubbing your forehead. "Also attakeded is not a word", he walks out of your room shaking his head.

You grabbed your blankets and threw them back on the bed with no intention of making your bed. Honestly you hadn't made your bed in a couple of weeks, which was not normal for you, but when Danny asked about it you just always said you had  a lot on your mind and just forgot. Still smiling you walked to your door, waved at Danny and slowly closed it. As soon as it shut and you saw yourself in the full length mirror on the back of the door your smile fell. The bags under your eyes were a tell tale sign that you hadn't been sleeping well, and you used the excuse of studying for the reason. You slowly walked to your closet grabbed a pair of boot cut light blue jeans and a Beatles t-shirt to change into. You sat at your desk to find a hair tie and pull up your hair. "Wait when was the last time I brushed my hair", you thought to yourself, you shrugged your shoulders and figured you would do it later. You got up put on your clothes, turned and faced the mirror put on your best fake smile and opened the door.

You bounced out of your room and into the kitchen watching Danny eat a piece of toast, and looking at his phone. "Watcha do...... is that really all your going to eat good sir?", you glare at him waiting for his answer. "I mean I had juice too, sooooo, no it's not all that I am putting into my stomach", he answered you not taking his eyes off of his phone. You cross your arms and puff your cheeks. Danny knows this look, it's the friend who acts like a mother look, and that meant he was about to eat a full course meal. "No, no I don't have time. I have to make a bunch of tiktoks, film a video, and study", he put the toast in his mouth and put up his hands. But it was too late, you had already walked to the fridge, pulled out eggs, bacon, and pre-made pancake mix. You put them on the counter and bent down to get the pans from the cabinet. "Well good, you can start on all that while I make you food", you smiled at him but at the same time glared at him with the force of a thousand friend glares. It took about half an hour to get the food prepared but once it was done, it was a meal fit for a prince, because you made the bacon way too crunchy.

It was about four hours later while you were sitting at your desk studying that your phone dinged. You picked it up and once you saw who it was from your stomach dropped, your blood ran cold, and your heart started to ache. It was him, the guy who promised you the world, only to turn around and tell you that none of it meant anything they were and to quote "just words" and start dating the girl who had been worming her way into his heart. You opened the message unable to stop yourself "Why haven't you responded to my messages, I know your reading them, just tell me how I'm being a jerk and I'll fix it" ding another message "Please just talk to me" ding "I know your reading these right now". You put your phone down and started to cry as quietly as possible so Danny wouldn't hear you. Out of nowhere your phone started ringing, you looked at who was calling, it was him. Without thinking, full of pain, anger, regret, and every emotion at once, you stood up, threw your phone, making a large thud sound, and fell to the floor crying. You just couldn't do it anymore the pain and hurt was just to much. Everything was just to much. You didn't hear the door slam open, breaking that mirror that you hated so much, or the voice that was asking if you were ok and where were you hurt. You could only hear the sound of everything crashing around you, the pain of heartache, the stress of school, the pressure to fit in, the fear of not finding a job, everything at once.

Suddenly you felt warmth, and pressure that started to calm you, you looked between your fingers to see a very concerned Danny face. It had taken Danny about three minutes of asking what happened to see a broken Samsung phone on the floor to realize this was a different type of pain, it wasn't physical. He lied down on the floor and scooped up his broken friend. He knew for a few weeks that something just wasn't right. But he couldn't put his finger on it, his dorky roommate was still bouncy, smiling, and just being an overall dork. But it seemed off, there was no mischievous glint in the eyes, they looked dull and dead. He was mad at himself for not asking what was going on, what was on his roommates, no friends mind.

Looking at Danny through tears you could do nothing but hiccup, you were so mad at yourself for letting Danny see you like this, how could you lose control you had been doing such a good job at hiding it. Danny's face was full of concern but his eyes full of anger, as composed as possible he said through gritted teeth "Who the fuck had the audacity to make you cry?" You could only shake your head when your phone started ringing again, you felt that pain in your chest again and squeezed your eyes shut, feeling everything crashing around you again. You felt the warmth leave you and could no longer hear the phone ringing but a voice seething in fury. "If you ever call her or message her or even think about her again I will make sure nobody will find your body, and that is not a threat but a promise." You looked up to see Danny grab your dark blue blanket and drape it over you, he lied down next you and looked you in the eyes with a faint smile, "The floor is pretty comfy, I can see how you survive the suns wrath every morning when it tries to defeat you." You knew he was trying to make joke but it fell on deaf ears, your depression had taken over and was not letting you go. His smile fell and he put his arms around you in a bear hug, you felt him whisper in your ear, "Tell me everything."

And you let it all out, the heartbreak, the anger, the stress, the fear, everything. He just lied there listening to every last word giving you an extra squeeze when he could tell it was getting to much to talk about. By the time you were done you had stopped crying and had started to fall asleep. Danny pulled you closer and squeezed you again, and in his best British gentleman from the 1800's voice said, "Now darling why didn't you tell someone all this instead of holding it in, you could have avoided a lot of grief if you had just told someone," going back to his normal he said smiling, "or at least you could have talked to me." You looked into his eyes or a moment and leaned in close and whispered, "Really the British gentleman, you are such a dork," and flicked his forehead.
