The news of Maharaj Parikshit's death by Takshak's snake bite has spread throughout the three worlds. His son Janmajay who now ascended the throne has vowed to eliminate the race of snakes and free this world with from them.
Janmajay has organized a Sarp-Satra, snake sacrifice. But before he could start the yagya he was stopped by sage Vaishampayana, a student of Ved-Vyas, who told him the tale of Mahabharat, the story of his grandfathers and great-grandfathers. This is the first time that the tale has been narrated.
Janmajay called off the snake sacrifice and ended the enmity with snakes. There is no place for revenge once you have the learnings of Mahabharat.
Although Janmajay ended the enmity with the snakes, few of them were not having it. They began to terrorize sages, helpless people etc. They poisoned food, killed people and had no remorse for it.
Brahmadev ordered all the snakes of earth to go and reside in Patal lok, because if they didn't the snakes might kill a huge amount of people. Many snakes obeyed the order but some were still creeping around on earth.
"Garud, jo bhi sarp prithvi par dikhe unhe mrityu ke ghaat utardo. Brahmadev ke adesh ki awehlna karne ka dand do unhe." Narayan ordered Garud.
Garud obeyed Narayan's order and began killing the snakes of earth mercilessly. The snakes ran to Nagraj Vasuki for protection.
"Nahraj Vasuki, humari raksha kijiye ! Garud hume Marna chahte hai !" One of the snake pleaded.
"Bhrata Takshak aur kuch Nago ke karan sabhi sarpo ko dand nahi mil sakta." Vasuki said and by then Garud appeared in front of them.
Now both Vasuki and Garud stood in front of each other in their humanly form, both angrily glaring at each other.
"Garud ! Tum Narayan ke wahan ho, tumhe aisa atyachaar shobha nahi deta." Vasuki said sternly.
"Brahmadev ne tumhe aadesh diya tha patal lok mai Jane ko, tab bhi tum yaha prithvi par kya kar rahe ho ?! Yeh Brahmadevke aadesh ki awhelna hai !" Garud said.
"Kintu jo sarp nirdosh hai unn par aisa atyachar kyu !?!?" Vasuki asked.
"Mai yaha tark-vitark karne nahi aaya. Ya toh Patal lok chale jao ya mrityu ke liye sajj raho !" Garud said.
"Mere jeevit rehte tum ab ek bhi Sarp ko kshati nahi pahucha sakte !" Vasuki proclaimed.
"Toh Sarvapratham mujhe tumhare praan lene honge !!" Garud roared.

"Devi, aise toh anarth hojayega !" Adhrit said looking down at the fight between Garud and Vasuki.
"Devi, mai apne sarp bhaiyo ki hatya hote nahi dekh sakta, mujhe jaane ki anumati de." Karkotaka requested.
"Nahi Karkotaka, agar tum prithvi par jaoge toh tumhe bhi patal lok jana padega." Amarsri said.
"Yeh kaisi dhuvidha hai !?" Karkotaka exclaimed.
"Devi hum inhe aise hi ladne nahi de sakte ! Garud shigreh hi Vasuki ka vadh kardenge." Chitraksh said.
"Garud aur Vasuki dono hi rishi Kashyap ke putra hai, bhai hai. Dono ke madhya aisa yudh shobha nahi deta." Amarsri said.
"Isse rokne ke liye hume kuch toh karna hi padega." Karkotaka said.
"Suvarschas !" Amarsri called.
"Aapne yaad kiya devi ?" Suvarchas said landing on the ground.
"Ha. Suvarschas, Garud aur Nagraj Vasuki ke madhya ho rahe iss yudh ko roko." Amarsri said.

Down here in earth Garud was having an upper hand over Vasuki. Nagraj Vasuki fell on the ground and Garud kept a foot over his chest showing domination.
"Garud chodo inhe !!" Suvarchas yelled as he pushed Garud away from Vasuki.
"Suvarchas !?! Kyu aaye ho yaha !?!" Garud asked angrily.
"Mai devi Amarsri ke aadesh ka palan kar raha hu, yeh ladai yahi roko aur laut jao !!" Suvarchas said sternly as he helped Vasuki stand up.
"Mai bhi Narayan ke aadesh ka palan kar raha hu !! Tum beech mai mat aao Suvarchas !" Garud said sternly.
"Mahadev !! Meri raksha kijiye Mahadev !!" Vasuki called, Garud chuckled looking at his helplessness.
"Garud !! Piche hat jao !!" A voice said, they all turned their heads and saw a very angry Mahadev.
"Tum jo kar rahe ho woh uchit nahi !!" Mahadev said. Although his voice was calm, it sounded scary.
"Mera kartavya hai ki mai Narayan ke aadesh ka palan karu." Garud argued. Vasuki and Suvarchas stood behind Mahadev.
Garud lunged towards Mahadev but the Adiyogi just stomped his trishul making him fall a few feet backwards.
"Mai tumse ab bhi keh raha hu Garud, ruk jao !" Mahadev said calmly yet anger evident in his voice.
"Nahi ! Koi sarp jeevit nahi rahega !" Garud said still on the ground.
Mahadev stepped forward and angrily raised his trishul at Garud whose eyes widened and filled with fear.
"Narayan !! Meri raksha kijiye Narayan !!" Garud called scared. Mahadev was about to throw the trishul at him.
"Rukiye Mahadev !" Narayan said angrily stopping Mahadev. Both gave each other death stares.
"Nahi firse nahi." Amarsri muttered.
