Matt moved through the fallen skyscraper like a ghost, his goggles permeating the blood-stained walls. No heat signatures. Holly's and Geoffrey's signatures had vanished from sight, and now there was only darkness. Matt was having certain doubts about the rapidly decreasing chance of finding the Librarian alive, but nevertheless, he continued through the corridors for minutes on end. Then, a faint red pulse showed up, growing stronger as Matt moved closer. The body was lying on the ground, arms splayed outwards. He crossed a pitch black corridor and moved into the room the body occupied, putting the goggles into night vision mode. The Librarian lay on the floor, eyes closed and breathing slowly. There was a nasty bruise on her head, but otherwise she seemed fine. Matt crossed the room, checking the corners just out of habit, and knelt beside her. Matt checked her pulse (normal) and examined her forehead. The bruise was already turning a violent shade of purple, but there was no blood. He raised a hand, and levitated the Librarian to hang at shoulder height behind him as he began his trip back to Holly and Geoffrey. She was far lighter than the wall, and the ability was getting easier and easier the more he used it. He had just made his way back through the sideways elevator shaft when the sound of barking, and gunshots reached his ears. "Dammit!" Matt said, and charged forward, pulling one of his pistols from its holster. His rifle would be too large and unwieldy for the tight corridors. He ran into the main corridor that Holly's connected to, and instantly saw a cause of the chaos.
An army of small, pale fleshed beings with sharp pointed teeth and long vicious claws were throwing themselves at Geoffrey, who was fighting valiantly, but was outnumbered massively. The small things were horrific, loping along on their spindly arms and legs, with massive golf-ball sized eyes in their rounded heads. They suddenly noticed Matt, and a small detachment ran off from the main group and charged towards him, some running up the walls or onto the roof. Matt began taking them out on by one as they reached him, dropping each being with a single precise headshot. They fell to the floor, twitching and screaming in a high pitched throaty wail as Matt charged past them, reloading on the fly, the unconscious librarian sailing behind him. "Holly! Don't shoot!" Matt yelled as he leaped over the main group, shooting one of the beings off his leg as it attempted to tear into his shin, and called Geoffrey to him. His wolf disengaged, and followed Matt as he backpedalled towards Holly's position, firing shot after shot into the mass of small creature now chasing them. Holly was seated on the section of wall that had crushed her legs, propped up on the wall, revolver in hand. "So nice of you to turn up." She said, dropping one of the creatures with a well-placed headshot, Matt joining her.
They held off the small swarm of creatures. After a time, they slowly realised that their fellows were dropping like flies, and the creatures withdrew, spitting and hissing angrily, cheated out of their prey. Matt reloaded for the fourth time, and sat down, refilling his exhausted clips and returning them to his pack, working quickly and efficiently. Holly was shaking like a leaf, though he expected that was just the effects of blood loss, and a massive horde of tiny carnivorous aliens trying to kill her. "Are you all right?" Holly nodded, pale faced. Geoffrey was sporting a tiny gash down his side, but that was it. Matt patched him up, and rewarded him with some food and water, cleaning the bright blue blood out of his fur. "Nice shooting back there." Matt said. Holly nodded, colour returning to her face.
"Is she okay?" Holly asked, motioning to the librarian. "Just a knock on the head. She'll live." Matt said confidently. Holly sighed with relief. "Are you up to moving? I really wouldn't advise staying here much longer. Then again, If I had to fight those things off again, you'd probably have to pay me double..." he said with a tiny smile. "I don't think I can walk." Holly said glumly, looking down at her injured legs. He nodded thoughtfully. "I can levitate you both. You're far lighter than the wall, so I'm sure I could manage." He said. Holly decided not to comment on the "lighter than the wall" line, and just nodded. "We should really get out of the building, and find a way out of this hellhole." Holly said, as Matt lifted her into the air. It was a curious feeling, and Holly met it with relief. All pressure was instantly removed from her broken leg. "Drop me, and I'll kill you." She warned. "Good luck with that." Matt murmured and lifted Elizabeth off the ground too. Matt clicked his tongue and Geoffrey loped forward, looking for the path of least resistance. The entrance they had come through was now part of the roof, so they would have to find an exit at ground level, or break through somewhere.
