The Great Hall was filled with students laughing and talking. There were four tables set up, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw. Harry, Ron, and Hermione were ushered off probably to have Harry checked out.

I saw Harry and Ron come through the doors and sit down at the Gryffindor table, no surprise there. They cheered for the incoming first years who got sorted into their house, and I stood awkwardly at the doors, I didn't know what I was supposed to do.

"Oh, Y/n there you are dear. I am Professor McGonagall," the woman approaching me said. I turned towards her she was tall and her hair was twisted up into some sort of fancy thing I could never achieve she was wearing green robes and a determined look on her face. "Here's your schedule, you can put it in the pocket of your robes. Follow me dear, I will explain everything," she pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to me and led me to a little room off the hallway of the great hall.

The room was dimly lit with the lamps on the wall and I could see a sliver of Professor McGonagall's face. There were two chairs across from each other, she sat in one and I sat down in the tother. "We don't usually have a lot of transfer students but when we do, their are a few things we do. First, we will sort you into your house. You will be treated as you are, a third year student, and not as a first year. Therefore, you will be the only one being sorted at the time. Now, I know it can be nerveraking to be up there alone, but something tells me you can do it. Second, you will be assigned a dormitory with the girls your age. And third, third year students have the opportunity to go to Hogsmeade. Considering your brother can go, I am assuming that your parents have given you permission as well."

"They have," I assured her. We then made our way out of the little room and I followed her down the long row in between the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor tables, I saw Cedric and his eyes were on me, he had a huge smile on his face. I noticed someone over his shoulder, a a pair of grey eyes were piercing into mine.

I rolled my eyes at the blonde boy and turned my head to the Gryffindor table. A lot of people were staring at me, I wasn't sure if it was a bad thing or not. I made eye contact with Harry and he gave me an awkward smile. That made me smile.

I got to the front of the hall with the professor, she pointed me towards the hat and stool. I placed the hat on my head and sat on the stool.

"Hmmm, very brave, loyal, a little witty, very caring. You could do well anywhere but I think it better be... GRYFFINDOR."

Relieved, I got off the stool and made my way to the cheering table. I sat down next to Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

"I knew it!" Ron said as I sat down. "You know, I had a feeling on the train but," he paused to put some more food in his mouth then continued, "I wasn't gonna say anything in case you didn't want to be in Gryffindor."

"How could I not!" I was smiling so much, this day could not have gone any better.

                                                             * * *

I was assigned a dormitory with Hermione, Lavender Brown, and Padma Patil. They are all very nice but Lavender was a little bit annoying.

Everytime I would start to fall asleep she would take a huge sigh and say, "I can't sleep, can you guys?"

Before I had the chance to put myself through the misery of almost falling asleep, I got up and decided to take a walk. Maybe by the time I get back Lavender will have finally fallen asleep.

I quietly shut the Fat Lady's portrait and made my way down the many staircases leading to different parts of the castle.

After a while of random lefts and rights, I found myself looking out of an open stone arch. I hadn't had much time to explore Hogwarts and learn the castle before my classes started, and as I looked out the window I realized how breathtaking the castle grounds really were.

There was a backdrop of rocky mountains and a starry black sky, and at the bottom of the mountains was a lake that seemed like it ran for miles out from Hogwarts. There was a little hut near the edge of the vast forest that had smoke billowing out of the chimney.

"Enjoying the view?" My head snapped in the direction of the faint whisper.

"Who's there?" I whispered back.

"You know who it is, Y/n." The voice said this and I could almost hear the smirk appearing on their face. Then the voice had a body, he was still in his robes and his blonde hair laid untidy in front of his face.

Oh good god, it could've been anyone, I would've have taken a teacher over, "Malfoy." I rolled my eyes and turned back to the open air.

"You know Y/n, we could be friends. You don't have to hang out with the lower class-."

"I'll stop you right there. First, if being friends with the 'lower class' gets me out of talking to you, then I'll gladly do it. Second, pureblood, halfblood, muggleborn, it doesn't matter. We're all human, we're all special. So if you've come to tell me I should hang out with you, don't waste your breath." And again I turned back to the window and was hoping he would take the hint and leave.

He scowled and opened his mouth a couple times but nothing seemed to come out. A satisfied smile appeared on my lips when I realized I got the last word.

He turned away from the window and turned his eyes towards me forcing me to take my eyes away from the window and on him. He took a step closer to me and began to whisper aggressively, "You've got some nerve talking to me like that y/n. If you knew who my family was, you'd shut your filthy mouth. I'm sure you've heard loads of bad things about me from Potter and his gang, but maybe you should find out some things for yourself instead of believing everything anyone tells you."

With that he walked away and I cursed myself for not getting the last word. I hung out at the window for another minute or two, then decided to go back to my dorm room to get some sleep. Hopefully Lavender would be fast asleep by now.

I got back to the Gryffindor common room and went up the stairs to my dorm room.

Draco's words kept playing over and over in my mind.

Maybe you should find out somethings for yourself instead of believing everything anyone tells you.

Who does he think he is? And why did I care?
