Darius came bounding into Dorian's room. He seemed strangely excited considering the scene that just unfolded around the dinner table. Dorian smiled slightly at his younger brother.
"Dory! Guess what Dory!" Darius said, grinning. His gold eyes glinted with excitement.
"What, Darius?"
"Mommy said we can go over to A-feh-line's house!" He explained. Darius had a hard time pronouncing Aveline's name, since it was so strange and uncommon.
Dorian immediately frowned. He hadn't explained to his younger brother the situation. Aveline was always really sweet to the young boy, and Dorian didn't want to upset him.
"We can't do that, Dar," he said. Darius immediately frowned.
"Why not?" The boy whined. Dorian picked the younger boy up and sat him on the bed. He tried to avoid telling his younger brother anything upsetting. Like why their father left, why he didn't like their mother. Anything that a four year old should not have to deal with. But he wasn't sure how to avoid this one.
"Well, Dar. Aveline is missing right now."
Darius furrowed his eyebrows together in confusion. "You mean, like she went to the store?"
"No," Dorian said with a sigh. "As in, no one knows where she went."
Darius was sad for a moment, before perking up. "When will she be back?"
A sigh escaped Dorian's mouth. "I don't know. Could be years from now. Or she couldn't be back at all. We just have to wait and see."
This seemed to confuse Darius even more. "Why wait for her when you can look? Wasn't she running when you left?"
Dorian's eyes widened. He didn't even think of that. Sometimes he thought that younger kids could be so much smarter than older ones, because they haven't been taught to look for a hidden answer. Most of the time, it's fairly simple.
"I'll be right back," Dorian said, before racing off to Aveline's usual running path. There had to be something there.
He passed by Aveline's house on the way, where her parents were discussing the situation with some police. Dorian didn't stop to chat, though.
Her usual route was relatively short if you were in a car, but he was running. And, unlike Aveline, he did not have a high stamina. By the time he reached the spot she normally turned around at, he wanted to curl up on the concrete.
There wasn't a single trace of her. Nothing was on the path. He sighed in defeat and continued walking. A few minutes later, he saw something glinting in a bush. He almost dismissed it. The bad part of town had a lot of mysterious and not necessarily nice things within.
But instead, Dorian walked off the sidewalk and pulled the object out of the bush. It was a light blue water bottle. The initials on top were AA. Aveline Asher.

Hey everyone! Sorry that this is so short. I'm having a crazy week! Pitching lessons, and evaluations, and high school orientations are a lot to keep up with lol.
Thank you all so much for reading. Remember, don't be afraid to ask questions! I don't bite.
More Dorian chapters will be coming soon, and hopefully his part of the story is starting to pick up. Love you guys!
