*Mackenzie's POV*

I'm able to sit up now. But I'm not allowed to have my phone until further notice.

Not like I wanted it anyways.

It's around 3:30 when Maddie comes back in the room. Her face is puffy and red. What is she crying for?

She looks around nervously then sits on the edge of my bed.

Maddie: We have to talk.
Me: Ugh. Now what?
Maddie: Do you wanna know why I helped you last night?
Me: No.
Maddie: You have to.
Me: What do you want, Maddie? Go off with your friends and post more bad stuff about me on Twitter, spread it around school. Want a picture so you can say I have AIDS or something?
Maddie: No. Please. Mackenzie. I need to say this and I need to do it now.
Me: Fine. What?
Maddie: You know my friend, Kayla?
Me: The bitchy friend who likes to take my seat on busses?
Maddie: Yes. Well, last year, her and Rock dated and-
Me: It's her, isn't it? Her and you did this to me?
Maddie: I didn't know what I was doing at first! She told me, before I got better, that she knew you were evil. And you hurt me. But-
Me: But nothing. You did it. Even after you were better you stayed home, tricked doctors and spread lies about me!! Why?!
Maddie: I don't know! I just-
Me: I hate you! You ruined my life! Go home!! Where's Greg?
Maddie: Mackenzie, please, I-
Me: I want Greg!!

Maddie leaves quickly. I know I made her cry. But I don't really care.

Minutes later, Greg walks in the room. He's definitely not my dad, but he works for now.

Greg: Hey, Kenz. How you feelin'?
Me: Like shit.

He's not used to hearing me swear. It surprises him but he lets it slide.

Greg: Need anything?
Me: Why did Maddie do it?
Greg: Do what?
Me: You don't know? Why I'm here?
Greg: I'm more focused on why your mom isn't here. But I know about the physical injuries.

Mom isn't here? Why isn't Mom here? I'm her daughter. And I need a mother right about now.

He can tell he just make a huge mistake in telling me that.

Me: It's fine. I know she doesn't care enough to come. But so Maddie-
Greg: Hey. Your mother does care about you. Never ever say she doesn't.
Me: Then why isn't she here?! She rode in the ambulance to see Maddie! Maddie helped hurt me and she has no means to show up or punish Maddie or anything! She only cares about Maddie! She hasn't cared about me since I was ten! Maybe even before that!
Greg: No. She cares, Mackenzie. And Maddie could even be sent to prison for a little while, so I assume she'll get punishment enough.
Me: She can?
Greg: Yes. She was bullying a minor. She may not be, but if she is, she will not be sent as long as who was behind it all.
Me: Kayla.
Greg: Kayla? Kayla. Sweet, polite Kayla?
Me: No, bitchy, hateful Kayla.

My chin wobbles, a threat of tears lurking.

Me(quietly): She did this to me. She threatened me. She made fun of me. She got everyone at school to do it. She's why I skipped dance so much. She's why I wanted to get homeschooled again. She did this!
Greg: Okay, okay. Shh. I'm gonna talk to Maddie about this. And take your phone to the doctors.

I nod and let him leave. I cry, alone in this room, for as long as I can remember.

*Maddie's POV*

Kayla is getting arrested. She'll be in a juvenile detention facility for 6 months. For cyberbullying and assault of some sort.

She hates me. She told me she's gonna get me.

Me, on the other hand. I'm going to a boarding academy until the end of the year. I don't get to dance with the ALDC until summer booty camp. I can't come home until after school ends.
