Her heart was pounding. In the back of her mind she could hear the train whistling and the shouting of parents waving their kids goodbye, asking them to write often. This was all lost on Bethany. In the forefront of her mind all she could think about was how she was actually here, how she was actually going to Hogwarts and wasn't going to see her dad for another 10 months.

10 months.

She ignored it. 'Calm down', she thought to herself, 'You can write to him often'. Her bigger problem here was finding a seat on the train. She didn't know anyone. With her dad being a muggle and her witch mother dead, she didn't have a lot of association with the magical world. Of course she had had friends, but they were muggles and would probably never talk to her again if they had uncovered the truth about her.

She stood there in the hallway for a minute, contemplating. Finally, she swept along the compartments and went into an empty one close to the end of the train.

Sighing, she sat down and took out her phone. It would be hours before they would arrive, she had discovered when she had been eavesdropping on overlapping conversations as she was making her way to the compartment. She took out her headphones from her jumper and started listening to music. She was listening to her favourite song, 'Deep throat' by Cupcake.

🎶🎧 Hug me, daddy better make me choke🎶🎧

The compartment door slid open.

A girl she suspected around her age, with brilliant red hair and red cheeks, accompanied by a slightly older girl with bushy brown hair and fierce expression on her face, opened the door. Their expressions immediately turned to shock after seeing the compartment was not empty.

'Oh-I'm s-sorry,' said the girl with the brown bushy hair, 'I thought this compartment was empty. We didn't mean to bother you. Cmon Ginny, let's find somewhere else to go'. She had a shy smile and held an awkward glance. As she was closing the door, a scary thought came over Bethany; she had yet to make any friends at Hogwarts.

'Wait!' She said, 'it's alright. You guys are welcome to stay if you'd like'. She liked at both of them. The 2 girls exchanged a glance and smiled at her.

'Thank you, that's very kind of you' the older girl said. She held the appearance of having a calm aura, but Bethany could tell that underneath there was a bubbling river waiting to burst.

They both sat down across from her. There was a moment of silence.

'Are you new here?' The older girl finally asked, slicing through the silence. Bethany nodded. 'Ah so is Ginny here', she tilted her head in the direction of the red head girl beside her. On closer inspection, Bethany noticed, she had hundreds of freckles dotted along her papery white skin, looking more like drawn on dots with orange felt tip than actual freckles.

'I'm Hermione Granger. What's your name?' the older girl said. She had a look of masked curiosity on her face, as if she knew more than what she was letting on.

'Bethany Harper' she replied. A flash of understanding crossed Hermione's eyes.

'Ah yes, I thought so' Hermione replied. Upon seeing the confusion etched on Bethany's face, she elaborated,'Well you're the only first year here who isn't with anyone, so I thought that was obvious enough evidence.' Her tone was saccharine. Bethany was bewildered.

'What's that supposed to mean?' She asked, a hint of animosity in her tone. What was this girl really trying to say here? That is made sense she hadn't made any friends yet?

'Oh no, please don't take offence!' Hermione quickly recovered. 'I just meant that you were the only first year who I had no clue who you were. You see, I took the time out of school last year to ask the sorting hat who would be here next year, incase I would see any familiar faces, you know?'. Hermione's face was flushed and her voice was wavering as if she was actually nervous. 'I didn't mean to offend you in any way at all'. She had a guilty expression.

Bethany laughed.

'It's fine, really, I was just wondering what you meant-Hermione' She said. Hermione's forehead had now developed a sheen of sweat as she was attempting to recover from what just happened.

'Weakling. I will destroy her.' Bethany thought to herself. Big boobs? Anyways chile.

Ginny laughed.

'What house are you wanting to be in?' Hermione quickly said, recovering from the mishap that made her blubber like a band of raging baboons.

Bethany's brow furrowed. What was she talking about-

'What do you mean?' Bethany replied. Bethany had done no prior research of Hogwarts, an oversight she now regretted as she felt like an idiot.

'The Hogwarts houses? There are four; Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and Slytherin. I'm in Gryffindor, the best house.' Bethany could tell that she felt a sense of pride with her house. Ginny beamed.

'Oh I do hope that I'll get into Gryffindor' Ginny said nervously. There was a fire in her eyes. 'Everyone in my family was sorted into Gryffindor, I want to be one too.' She too, Bethany noted, had bought into this Gryffindor pride that Bethany couldn't understand.

'What's so great about Gryffindor', Bethany said, her tone full. They sounded like a load of upright pricks.

'Oh' Ginny was gushing, 'They're all so brave and courageous and not scared of anything and strong and Harry last year defeated You-Know-Who again at only 11 years old and everyone is a team and-'

Bethany cut her off.

'Who's Harry Potter?'

Hermione and Ginny gave her a look.

'Wow-you really know nothing' said Hermione, her tone disdainful.

Bethany killed Hermione.
