Hiron's ears twitched as he heard a noise in the distance. He stopped and sniffed the air. ''Meadow?''

''What is it?'' Meadow turned around to look at him.

''Don't you hear the noise?'' Hiron whispered.

''What noise?'' Meadow sighed and looked around, then shrugged. ''I don't hear anything. You're probably just imagining things. Now follow me and stop being a scaredy-cat!''

''I'm not a scaredy-cat!'' Hiron hissed and sprinted past Meadow, but then stopped before he stepped onto the Thunderpath.

''Come on, you slow snail!'' Meadow ran past him and onto the Thunderpath.

Hiron let out a squeak as he heard the noise again, but this time it was louder. Something was yowling in the distance, and it kept getting closer and closer. It got so close that everything else went quiet. Meadow seemed to hear it too, because his sister suddenly stopped and looked to her left. She then let out a squeak.

A giant, blue creature was coming toward her, yowling angrily. Its paws were black and round. It made another sound, as loud as a thunder, as it started speeding up toward Meadow.

''Watch out!'' Hiron yowled and, without thinking, ran forward and pushed Meadow to the other side. Then he sprinted after her right before the creature hit him.

''What was that?'' Meadow coughed and raised her head, looking after the creature as it disappeared in the distance.

Hiron looked after it, shaking. ''I have no idea.''

Meadow looked at her brother admiringly. ''You saved me! I bet that creature would've squashed me if you hadn't been here. You're so brave, brother!''

Hiron's amber eyes light up, purring. I'm brave! I'm not a scaredy-cat anymore!

''Anyway, I think we should go back.'' Hiron meowed and turned around, but froze when he realized that they'd have to cross the Thunderpath again in order to get back.

Meadow sighed. ''I thought you were brave! That creature obviously only walks on the Thunderpath, so it won't come after us. Now come on! Or are you a scaredy-cat again?''

''I'm not a scaredy-cat!'' Hiron hissed and turned around, his fur bristling.

''All right, all right, calm down! Come on, I really want to see the gorge!" Meadow meowed and turned around, sprinting away.

Hiron looked past his shoulder, at his den, which was now just a couple of bushes in the distance. Then he looked forward and sprinted after his sister, then looked around. There was grass everywhere, and he couldn't see any Thunderpath near him, except for the one behind him. He squinted his eyes and looked to his left. He saw a tall, red building in the distance. I don't see the forest dad talked about.. did he just make it up to scare us?

Hiron let out a squeak as he tripped over a rock and fell on his belly. Meadow turned around, alarmed, but then broke into a laughter. ''Oh, brother, you're so silly!''

Hiron got up and looked at his paws, embarrassed. ''Good thing our parents aren't here to see us.''

Meadow let out a giggle and nuzzled him. ''You're right. Now come on, I hear water!''

''Do you?'' Hiron sniffed the air and listened closely. Meadow was right, there was water somewhere ahead of them. And that was probably the gorge.

''Come on!'' Meadow sprinted forward, and Hiron followed his sister. They passed a giant rock, and soon Meadow jumped on a fallen branch.
