The Truth will not be Denied
"Krystal, bilisan mo na riyan at naghihintay si Arkin sa'yo rito!" sigaw ni Mama mula sa baba. I hurriedly grab my things as I spray a bit of my favourite perfume before going out of my room.
May date kami ngayon ni Arkin to celebrate our eleventh monthsary. I still can't believe that we lasted for almost a year knowing that he's a playboy. I just wish that we'll last more than just a year.
As I walked down the stairs, I saw him waiting for me down there. I can't help but to smile, he's such a gentleman and so sweet. I couldn't ask for more.
As soon as I reached the last step of the stairs, he quickly held my hand and kissed the back of it.
"How sweet of you, Love!" I said as I kissed his cheek.
Tumingin ako kay Mama para makapagpaalam, saka kami lumabas ni Arkin ng bahay.
I don't know where we're going and he wouldn't tell me. How I hate surprises! But what can I do? My boyfriend loves surprising me.
We talked about random stuff like we usually do while we're on our way. These kinds of conversations are what I love the most in our relationship. Just talking about how our day went on before we saw each other and how we did well in our work.
Arkin is my first boyfriend. When I was still studying, I focused so much on my studies because I wanted my parents to be proud of me. Not that they aren't proud, they are. Siguro gusto ko lang ding tuparin ang pangako ko sa kanila noong eighteenth birthday ko. Na kahit na hinayaan na nila akong gawin ang gusto ko, magtatapos muna ako ng pag-aaral bago makipagrelasyon.
We were in our last year of college when Arkin courted me, I doubted him. Akala ko no'ng una, dare lang or pustahan ng barkada nila. I really have trust issues because I've been betrayed by my fake friends during my junior high school years. Plus, sobrang mahiyain ko pa no'ng college. I only interact with other people if it is about school. I have friends but we're not blockmates. Some of my friends were my senior high school friends at nasa ibang universities na.
So, when Arkin courted me, I always pushed him away because he's known as a playboy on our campus. Besides, he wasn't showing his true intentions. Lagi niyang sinasabi noon na gusto niya ako, na mahal niya ako, but I couldn't feel it. Yes, he was doing the usual things when it comes to courting but that time, I thought it was only for a show. Para masabing totoo ang feelings niya for me.
That was when I challenged him. Nairita na ako sa kakapadala niya ng mga bulaklak at chocolates sa akin twice a week, so I told him to stop. Sinabi kong tumigil na lang siya dahil hindi ko maramdaman ang sincerity. But the truth is I wanted him to stop to see if he really will stop. Kapag nagpatuloy siya, that's enough for me to say that he's really serious about me. And he didn't! Pinalipas niya muna ang tatlong araw before sending me flowers and chocolates.
I confronted him about it and told him to court my family too, if he really is sincere. Doon nagsimulang mabuo ang feelings ko sa kaniya. Mabilis niyang nakasundo ang parents ko, pati kuya ko. Kahit pa may approval na siya from them, patuloy niya pa ring niligawan ang pamilya ko hanggang sa maging kami on our graduation day, after almost six months of courtship.
And now, we're here inside his car, on our way to the place where he prepared his surprise for me. Sa totoo lang, ayos lang talaga sa akin kung simpleng selebrasyon na lang. Kasi halos buwan-buwan na lang yata ay surprise siya sa akin for our monthsaries.
"I'm sure you're gonna love it," Arkin said as he put a blindfold on me before helping me get out of the car.
"I told you, hindi na kailangang may surprise. Baka wala ka nang maisip na surprise sa anniversary natin," I joked as he was guiding me towards somewhere. The place smells like there's a lot of plants and trees in the surroundings.
