Chapter 2

My mom wakes me up 10 minutes later.

"Its dinner" she says an I follow her down stairs. Out on our table three bowls are out, I stare at the third.

"Is your boyfriend coming?" I ask.

"Yes" she says filling each with the stew she made. As if on cue the doorbell chimes. My mom hurriedly goes and answers the door. Within moments my mom and her boyfriend Daz enter the kitchen.

"Hello Annie" he nods, his piercing blue eyes move over to the table. "Oo Stew! My favorite" he sits down. Daz has a muscular build, his hair is black and his bangs are parted to the side. He wears a white t-shirt and jeans. I sit down across from him and start eating.

"Daz how has your day been" My mother asks.

"Long" he laughs. I stare at him, watching his every move. Daz is a nice person and all but he just seems, well mysterious. Like he has secret to keep. "How about you" he asks.

"Great!" My mom giggles. "Ive been just working around the house"

"Sounds" he pauses "fun?"

"Eh kinda" my mom replies shrugging her shoulders. I laugh and she looks at me weirdly. "Whats so funny?" She asks.

"Your guys are just so awkward!" I snort.

"No we are not!" My mom blushes, her mouth hanging open.

"Yeah right" I mutter beneath my breathe. I get up and clean my bowl. My mom mutters to Daz.

"I'm so sorry" Avoiding eye contact I head up to my room and shut the door. I fall onto my bed, again I look out the window. It was to dark outside to see anything. Settled down I sit down on my bed and strip of my shoes and socks. I change into my unicorn pajamas and lie down. I close my eyes and drift into slumber.

I wake up with the morning sun in my eyes. I squint, and check the clock. Its 9:34. I get up and stumble over to the closet before noticing its a Saturday. Relived that I do not have to go to school I head down the stairs and into the kitchen. I grab a bowl and filled it with Lucky Charms. I then fill it with milk. Heading to the table the door rattles. I sigh, placing down the bowl I open the door. Jane stands their, her eyes filled with excitement.

"You have got to see this!" She shrieks grabbing my arm. She pulls me out and down the sidewalk. My face burns red from the embarrassment of wearing unicorn pajamas. She pulls me towards the park, where police cars and ambulances are placed around it. I look curiously, and notice the top of the swings were not in sight. She plows through a group of people and I mutter "Sorry" for each one. I gasp. Where the swings were once standing a giant hole replaces it.

"What happened?" I ask, completely ignoring the group of people around me.

"The ground just collapsed, dragging a runner with it! She says. Firefighters rush in with ropes and harnesses. The hook them up and leap into the void.

"Is he okay?" I ask, startled.

"They said he fell on a ledge, his legs are broken but they think they can save him" Suddenly a piercing scream fills the air. The rescue team resurfaces.

"Its to dangerous!" One yells. "We lost Jake!" My eyes widen.

"The ledge is breaking!" I voice screams from the hole. Confidence over taking me I leap over the yellow tape. A police officer tries to stop me but I shoot a glare and he backs away. Marching up to a rescue worker I grab his harness.

"Stop!" He yells "Its too dangerous" before his advice affects me I jump.
