Burning Caramel

Chapter 4

The rest of the trip there was uneventful. Bakugo kept Mineta off of Sora, his moody face intimidating the short teen into sitting straight in his seat. On her other side, Todoroki sat silently, not uttering a word to anyone. A small frown meets Sora's lips, her chest heaving a sigh. Shifting slightly, she looks up to see a pair of vermilion eyes staring silently at her.

"Oi, Flicker. The sighing and moving is getting on my damn nerves. Just sit still and shut your mouth, got it?" Bakugo growls with a slightly irritated look in his eyes. Sora glances at him with a derisive snort as she grumbles quietly to herself. Bakugo clenches his teeth in irritation beside her, coaxing himself to not say anything else as the bus slowly turns into the parking lot of a large building shaped like a dome. 

The hum of many voices from the excited students fill the air as they all stand and make their way off the bus. Aizawa leads them indoors, many of their classmates tittering excitedly as they meet Thirteen, the white of his spacesuit standing out in the backdrop of the disaster zones behind him. Sora's eyes wander from zone to zone, getting a good look at her surroundings as awe overtakes her at the sight.

 There was a modern-looking disaster zone, a fire zone. There were rocky cliffs and what looked like a shipwreck in the middle of the water. Excited gasps snap Sora out of her thoughts as she realizes that she missed everything Thirteen just said and now a dark portal was opening nearby. Villains began to flow through the abyss, filling the USJ with an almost tangible, oppressive air. Sora's attention snaps to Aizawa as he rushes forward yelling "Thirteen, Protect the students!"

Running forwards, Aizawa engages the nearest villain to him, quickly dispatching him from the land of the conscious. With him busy, Thirteen begins to direct them back to the exit. Another portal suddenly appears and a man with an astral body of mist black as sin itself hops out of it. 

"It's a pleasure to meet all of you. We are the League of Villains. I know it's impolite, but we decided to invite ourselves into this haven of justice to say hello. And besides, isn't this a fitting place for the symbol of peace to take his last breath? I believe he was supposed to be here today and yet I see no sign of him. There must have been some change in plans we could not have foreseen. Ah well, in the end I suppose it doesn't matter. I still have a role to play," he goes on. 

Thirteen uncaps a fingertip at the same time that Bakugo and Kirishima leap forwards at the misty shadow figure. A rocking explosion comes from Bakugo's hands as he attacks, the blasts echoing loudly. "You live up to your school's reputation but you should be more careful children, otherwise someone might get hurt," the shadow man growls as he emerges through the smoke. As the smoke clears, Thirteen yells at Kirishima and Bakugo to move. Sora reaches them, grabbing Bakugo's arm with a cry as the mist surges towards them and they are teleported across the span of the USJ, Thirteen no longer in their sights.

With a cry of fear, Sora feels herself falling through the sky, but tenses as a muscular pair of arms wrap around her body. The slight turn of her head catches the sight of familiar ash blonde hair. "Oi, relax, it's just me. Brace yourself," Bakugo says as the ground rushes to meet them. With a thud they land inside the collapse zone, Bakugo taking the brunt of the fall as Sora lands on top of him, their noses smashed together. 

A blush smatters across Sora's cheeks as Bakugo opens his eyes and shifts, pulling her to her feet as he stands. "Looks like we were teleported to the collapse zone. Keep your eyes open and don't fall behind. Who knows how many villains are hiding in the area," Bakugo advises, strangely calm for the situation they had found themselves in. Sora turns at the sound of shuffling feet to see several villains shuffling around the corner.
