chapter five.
[5] "I'M A BURDEN"

It had been a couple of days since Johnny starting tutoring me and oddly enough, our relationship had progressed.

Shocking, I know.

I used to rant to him about Jenna and her evil ways, as childish as this sounds he used to turn them into a tale of 'Jenna meets Jail' ( something we indeed invented ) which resulted in me laughing like an idiot.

I never thought I'd be saying this but I didn't mind his company and I blame his humour for that.

Surprisingly, Asher came up to me a few times too and we used to have short conversations before I would run away cause I caught Jenna lurking around the corner.

It was slightly suspicious how Asher suddenly started putting the effort into talking to me after I willingly started hanging out with Johnny but I forced myself to not overthink about it.

I mean, what's there to even think about right?

I fixed my hair in the girl's restroom while Lauren re-applied her lip balm for the millionth time but I can't lie, she does have the softest lips among us three.

School got done about four minutes ago and Lauren needed to pee real bad so here we are.

As we were leaving my phone began to ring, I pulled it out my back pocket. The caller ID as 'momzilla' while my finger hovered over the green button.

Y'all need to appreciate my contact naming skills, Thank you very much.

I furrowed my eyebrows, confused on why she was calling me. I stopped walking, putting the phone up to my ear, "Hello?"

"When are you getting home?" She asked. Her voice stern and dry but annoyed at the same time.

Something had happened and that something wasn't good. Oh god.

I glanced at Kenzie and Lauren, "I'll be there in a few." I answered hanging up, nervous for what was awaiting at home.

I bit my lip as I sent Johnny a small 'I won't be able to come today.' text And leaving it at that, I gave the girls a quick goodbye before I exited school.

I rushed inside to see my mom sitting down on the couch, her shoulders slouched and her head was  down, both her hands resting on her lap.

She looked up at me, her eyes showing a hint of remorse, I just stood there trying to figure out what happened before she said, "He left."

"W-What?"

"I told your dad I filed a divorce and he just took his things and, he- he stormed off." She swallowed her spit, pursing her lips together.

Oh my god.
It's actually happening.

I wouldn't say I never saw this coming but I just didn't expect it...to be like this. I'm not ready.

They're taking different paths. They're moving on.
After forever fighting, it's finally happening and as much as I hate to admit, I didn't want them too.
