Louis’ POV

I froze. I couldn’t concentrate on anything else that was being said, only to have the same words continuously run through my head.

“Harry, you have lung cancer.”

How is that even possible? My best mate has fucking lung cancer.

“What c-caused this?” I could faintly hear Liam stutter that out to the doctor. I quickly glanced up, seeing the doctor let out a sigh and a shrug, meaning he didn’t know. He whispered something to Liam before they both headed out of the room. Zayn gave a quick glance to the young Irish lad, who was just staring at Harry with tears running down his cheeks. He immediately got up and wrapped Niall in a hug, ushering him out of the room.

Silence incased the room as I was still frozen in my spot, but now my gaze was directly on Harry. He was just staring at the door where they had all just left, a blank look present on his face.

Without even thinking, I grabbed his hand and began rubbing circles on it with my thumb. He didn’t even flinch when I did this, and I thought he was in a state of shock. We all were, we had just found out that he had cancer.

The next thing I knew, I was sitting on Harry’s bed and he was curled up in my arms hysterical crying. It took everything I had not to break down into tears seeing him like this.

“I-I don’t w-wanna have c-cancer L-Lou!”

I gently ran my hand through his curls. His precious curls. They would be gone if he had to go through chemo. This thought alone made my heart break more.

“Shh… Shh… I’m right here mate. Let it all out.”

Harry began crying harder, clutching onto my shirt with all of his strength. I could feel the tears dampening my shirt, and that’s when I let only one tear out.

I had to be strong for Harry, no matter what.

Liam’s POV

Harry has cancer.

I still cant believe it.

Right now I’m out here talking with the doctor, who seemed to be pretty sympathetic towards the entire situation. But of course he would be, he’s a doctor after all. He sees this everyday.

“We don’t have a cause of what actually started the mass to grow in his lungs, but it could have been a number of things,” the doctor continued on, but my mind was only half listening. The other half was thinking about how Harry was reacting back in the other room. “But we do have a few different treatment options. There isn’t a one hundred percent guarantee they will work but-”

“What are they?” I rushed. As rude as I was being, I just wanted to know how to help Harry.

“There’s two options. One is a surgery to remove the mass while the other is getting a chemo treatment once every two weeks.”

“Will the surgery work?”

“That’s the thing,” the doctor let out a sigh, glancing back down at the clipboard that he still hadn’t put down. “It’s a fifty percent shot it will work.”

“If it does work?”

“The cancer should be gone.”

I didn’t trust the look on the doctor’s face, and I’m guessing that’s because he knew of my next question. “And if it doesn’t?”

He sighed. “There will still be cancer in his body, because the surgery wont work if they don’t remove it all. That means he will still probably need the chemo if it doesn’t work.”
