chapter 2- present time

i walked outside while sister doris had kelly & joseph fill out some papers i ran to the tree were i knew emily would be. she sat up in the tree branches. "did you  get it?" she said sounding grave. i nodded with a smile, "it was weird, i even freaked out on them, it wasnt till after -" "ALISON! please stop!" this was the first time i heard emily mad.

"i dont want to hear it-" something i will NEVER have!" emily! thats not true-" " if thats what you think- then let me ask you this, how many people would want a nigger as a child!" i shook my head,"dont talk like  that , alot of people would" whatever" she jumped out of the tree.i amed for her to come back but to no prvail, i sat down on the ground beside the tree that me and emily spent our days on. there was something rong with emily. she never conseded,or thought abut her race at all.something provoked this inner part of her and i wanted to know, but now that im leaving, i fear i wont make admends.

i stood, saying my good byes that would always come to mind anytime that i thought of peterdales orphange. my new parents were wating beside there black ford F150. joseph had my bags while kelly opened my door.i slid in and she closed the door. now we were on our way. sister dorris waved goodbye as the car pulled out. i could see emily running to our tree climing it and waving goodbye  while wiping a way a few tears.

we rode thru  cites, farmland, and woods.until we arrived at a three story white house i let out a gasp," is this were you guys live?" amazed. kelly said were WE live," wow" i mutterd thats what i said when we first saw it " joseph cut the engine, got out and grabed my bags. kelly and me followed his lead. "we have a room set up for you upstaris." kelly anounced. " you will have to bunk with jade for a copule of weeks till we finsh your bedroom." i nodded wondireing who jade was.the home was big modern, yet a bit countryside flavor.these two clashed to gether made it look perfect i pulled my bag behind me turning in circules to look fully at it.

Alison," kelly called behind me. "yes?" i said turning around to look at her. beside her was a  tall teenager, with black, short wavy hair, a bith like kellys. she had gentle blue eyes. "this is jade."she streached out her hand "im sorry but shes a mute. so if she signs to you, come get one of us." i nodded, and kelly contenued your bedroom is upstaris the second door to your left, the bathroom is across the hall."

i took the hint and went upstairs and found my room. it was an amazing room, better than i ever had. isat my things down and not a few minutes jade comes in and sits on her bed witch is across from mine and just stared that seemed to be all she did was streit wasnt a common stare, it was blank void of rays of emotion.

"Aison come down stares for a moment " kelly called i went downstairs and there was kelly with her usual smile ,and joseph,staring blankly just like jade. this made me assume that jade was joshph douter "yes ?" i asked aproching them. "do you know what today is?"

"um tuesday?"

"nope today just so happens to be your birthday!"

"no, my birthday is December 23rd." "no today is only your birthday becouse its the day you came into our lifes so today is the day we will celbrate it." i began to get angry, my birhtday was all i had left of my past and my last name. "my birthday will always be December 23rd not sectember 8th!" i said sternly. this wasnt a fight. they wernt goin to win.

okay fine but you start school in two days, so do you want to go shopping?" i nodded and we  headed out the door . once we got to the highway i asked," so kelly you know an awful lot about me,what about you?" i thought for a moment and added ,"or Joseph/" she laghed  and her eyes seemed to brighten. "i know hes not that scocial but i think he will when he worms up to you.

he just isent used to having two teens around, or one that really talks for that matter," she pressed her lips togetheras she thought how best to say evreything. the car stoped and she said" josegh had an awful childhood,his mother was shot while his dad was sent to a looney ben," my parents are alive  and well."she paused  and the light turend green. she didnt say anything else when it came to familys.

later when we arrived back at the large victorian home, kelly  seemed like she was trying to pull away, and i didnt like the familar feeling.
