Winds of Change

Being a nomad can be fun. For instance, you get to travel the world and meet new people all the time. But it also has its hardships. Especially for someone like me -a demon as people call me. I'm not actually sure what I am, I grew up getting tossed from family to family in foster care until I ran away at ten. I was born with wings, massive things they are. Soft, strong, and a beautiful shade of brown, they've grown to be about ten feet long each.

My wings aren't the only reason people call me a demon, though they are the main one. I can also control the wind. Have since I was three years old, and that got me kicked out of my first foster home. I taught myself to control it, and it helped me learn to fly when I was eight. But when people fear you just because of how you look, it's hard to make friends or even find a place to call home.

And then you have the so called demon hunters. People that want to kill me and anyone that stands in their way. Unfortunately, that's how I lost the one I'd fallen in love with. A hunter had found where we were staying and broke in. To cause a distraction, my boyfriend told him that he had me chained up where I couldn't escape. As I jumped out of my bedroom window, I heard a shot ring throwing the apartment. I flew out of there as fast as I could, and didn't stop until about two days ago.

I couldn't risk him finding me and killing another innocent person, so I made sure to cause a wind storm all over ninjago. But just yesterday I was caught with my wings out, and I'm sure it won't be long before another hunter -or even the same one- shows up.

Felicity Ann Margret, stop with the inner monologue! I sigh, sitting on the big boulder near the cliffs that I call my home for now. Since I scare people in the village of Turreh, I decided to stay out as much as possible. Plus, the cliff is fun to jump off of. And it has a beautiful view. Perhaps I can find some friends in the next village. I think to myself as the birds fly over me. Swans from the looks of it.

Why are birds more accepting than humans? I've never once hurt anyone, but everyone is terrified of me. Maybe I can find a flock of birds to live with. They'd certainly be more loving than any village I've lived in so far. Maybe some eagles will accept me. My wings are quite similar to theirs.

I can tell that people are coming this way, so I slide off the top of my perch and stand as close to the flat side of the boulder as I can. Soon, voices can be heard.

"Demon, oh demon!" A female voice calls out. "We're here find out what you really are!" Yeah, me too.

"Alex, would you stop that?" A slightly gruff, male voice snaps. "I would prefer not to get in a fight today."

"With a demon or with your sister?" Quips yet another voice. This one higher than the last, but still distinctly male. The first voice giggles.

"Is there a difference?"

"Kai!" The fourth voice so far, and another female, calls out. "You will not call your sister a demon! No matter how conniving she may be!" I can hear more voices than the four, but too many to determine an exact number.

"Quiet, they are near and listening." That last voice was cold and calculated, and I thought about running to the cliff. But instead I waited, maybe they'll go  away if I stay still. "I promise, we're not here to hurt you. We just want to help you."

"Unless you hurt us, then it's game on."

"Jay, you wouldn't stand a chance against a demon."

"Kai, you don't stand a chance against a twelve year old."

"Can you two just stop?" So there's at least six, four male, two female. And they're prepared to fight if necessary. Got it. "I promise, as long as you don't attack us, we don't want to fight. A ninja's honor." Ninja? Hm, I almost want to fight them now.

I was standing perfectly still, working on a plan to get out of here when I see a shadow walking by the boulder. So I decide to just make a run for it, and only pull out my wings last minute. I hear them all call for me to stop, but I keep running to the cliff. They're all running after me, so I leap off the edge as soon as I can. Gasps echo through the rocks as I dive, but I never hit the ground. My massive wings catch wind as I pull them out and I glide across the bottom of the canyon.

I use my powers to propel me past the clouds, only to hear a loud alarm coming from a flying pirate ship. An old man with a long beard is standing on the deck and smiles at me, beckoning me to land. Unsure of what to do, I take a risk and land. Soon, nine teens climb aboard via rope- seven staring at me, two running to shut the alarm off. Once everyone is back, the old man walks towards me. Usually I would just jump off, but something keeps me here.

"Hello, Felicity." My eyes open as wide as they can, as I never told anyone here my name. And they couldn't have found out through the village people. I'm simply known as 'the demon' there. "My name is Sensei Wu, and these," he gestures to the teens, "are my students."

The ship starts to move on its own and the fight or flight feeling starts to come back. But so far no one has tried to kill me, they're all just standing there.

"You see, young one, I am the younger son of the First Spinjitzu Master. These students of mine are elemental masters-save for Alex here." This 'Alex' nods. A blonde, curly haired teen with bright blue eyes. "I am gathering a prophesied team together, to fight in the final battle."

He then goes into a story about the creation of Ninjago, and all of his students except one are silently reciting it with him. I take their looks into detail and memorize as much of them as possible. The one in black I've decided to call soot, because he looks covered in it. The tall girl next to him is sunshine. Then you have ghosty girl, golden boi, snowflake, freckles, water lily, Cinderella, and porcupine.

"Now, you may be thinking why I am telling you this." Actually, I was thing about why porcupine styles his hair like that, but okay. "As you have used it, I am sure you are aware of your powers." I nod and he continues. "You are the elemental master of wind, and should you chose to do so, will become the Kunoichi of Wind. But only if you so chose."

I think about the options. Surely these people are frightened by me, no matter how they are trained. But it would mean that I could have a home. Granted it's a flying ship so far, but it would still be a home. "How long do I have to chose?"

"As long as you need. You may stay here as long as you wish, as we have a bed open for you."

"And will I be able to learn with your students, to see if I'm interested?"

"Yes. You will start at the same level I start all my kunoichi."

"Okay. I will stay, but only to see if I want to join you."

"Of course. Elisia will show you around."

Well, at least I'll have a bed, constant food, and a possibility of friends. If this doesn't work out, I'm living as a bird.
