The sun was starting to set, Y/n, Manny and Sid walked out of the woods, collecting wood for their own shelters. Y/n and Manny seemed to be doing fine, carrying decent amount of wood to make a good shelter for the night. Whereas Sid was falling behind, carrying only a little stick behind him, acting like it was weighting a lot.
"Oh. Hu. Phew. Boy, I'm wiped out." Sid panted, whipping his forehead. The two looked over at Sid with confusion written over their faces.
"That's your shelter?" Manny questioned with a raised eyebrow. Y/n just stared dumbfounded, is he really this weak, to be able to just carry just a mini stick?
"Hey you're a big guy. You got a lotta wood. I'm a little guy." Sid defended himself.
"Sid, first of all you've got half a stick. Second of all, Y/n's smaller and around your height; and she's got more wood than you." Manny stated, whilst Y/n ignored the two and started to finish her shelter that was going good so far.
"Yeah, but she's a saber; she's more stronger than I am." Sid started, "Also, with my little stick and my highly evolved brain." Sid accidently poked himself in the eye with the stick. "Ow! I shall create fire."
"Fascinating." Manny muttered under his breath. Y/n looked up at him and chuckled at his sarcastic behaviour before she went back to work.
"We'll see if brains triumph over brawn tonight. Now, won't we?" Sid said as he snapped the stick in half and stared at the two who were standing in front of him with a challenging face. Y/n shook her head, "This ain't gonna work." She muttered before she went to finish her shelter that she was beginning to feel proud of.
-Time Skip-
Just as the two finished their separate shelters, the weather changed and it began to rain, causing the two to hide underneath their shelters to protect themselves from the rain droplets.
Meanwhile Sid was soaked, sitting out in the rain whilst he rubbed the now snapped in-half stick together, trying to make fire, his face holding disappointment and near defeat.
"Hey, I think I saw a spark." Manny teased the poor sloth, causing Sid to look hopeful for a second before he realised that Manny was lying and looked down in sadness.
Y/n felt pity for the sloth, but it was his own fault. He wasted all his time in trying to create a fire where he could've made himself a decent shelter to hide from the rain.
Sid let out a sigh before he got off from the soggy ground and walked over to the two.
"Uh, any chance I could squeeze in there with you, Manny, ol' pal?" Sid asked hopefully. He could have asked Y/n but he noticed that her shelter was too small to fit him so he didn't bother asking.
"Isn't there someone else you can annoy? Friends, Family... Poisonous reptiles?" Manny asks, already annoyed with the sloths presence.
"Ah, well my family abandoned me. They just kinda migrated without me." Sid replied as he tried to see if he could find a dry place in the shelter. "You should've seen what they did last year. I mean, they woke up early, and quietly tied up my hands and feet, and gagged me with a field mouse," Sid continued as he got comfortable on Manny's tusks. "and barricaded the cave door, and covered their tracks, and travelled through water so I'd lose their scent, and... and... who needs 'em anyway?" Sid mumbled at the end as he grabbed Manny's trunk and placed it on him as a cover.
Manny let out an annoyed sigh before he moved his trunk so he could pick Sid up and roughly place him on the ground. From Sid's story Y/n felt pity for him. Why did his family just abandon him like that?
"So what about you, you got a family?" Manny just blankly glared at Sid before turned around to go to sleep. Y/n sighed before she rested her head on her right paw and closed her eyes, the sound of the rain luring her to a peaceful sleep.
"Okay, you both are tired, I see. We'll talk in the morning." Sid said before hail started to fall down. "OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! Uh, Manfred, Manfred? Could you scooch over a drop? Oh, come on, nobody falls asleep that fast! MANNY!" Sid yelled before finally he seemed to give up when he realised that the mammoth was either ignoring him or was fast asleep, and he picked Manny's tail to stand underneath it for some shelter.
-Time Skip: Morning-
Both Manny, Y/n and Sid were walking down a path with lots of trees surrounding the both, showing different colours of pink.
But despite the beautiful sight, Sid pestered the two whilst talking about something Y/n wasn't even bothered remembering. "And, and she picked a hair off my shoulder and says, "Look, if you're gonna have an extra mating dance, at least pick a female with a same color pelt, right?" And I thought, 'whoa, she's gonna go praying mantis on me.' You know what I'm saying?" Sid asked causing Y/n to blink.
"Hey, if you find a mate in life, you should be loyal. In your case, grateful. Now, get away from me!" Manny said as he continued to walk.
"Well, I think mating for life is stupid, and there's plenty of Sid go around here." He bumps into him, making his apple fall down that he was going to eat. "Manny? Y/n?" Sid questioned before he looked over to where the two were staring at.
In front of them was a human woman holding onto a little bundle in one arm whilst she held onto a fallen tree branch with her other, holding onto it for dear life, trying to not get swept away with the strong rivers current.
The woman looked up and started to swim her way over to the trio while she held tightly onto her baby. The woman pushed her baby towards the trio, and laid the baby on the ground weakly. Manny quickly reacted as he grabbed the baby and pulled it closer towards him with his trunk.
Manny, Y/n and Sid looked down and saw the baby was looking up at them with a smile on It's face. It's a male, Y/n thought.
"Look at that. He's okay." Manny, Sid and Y/n noticed that the woman drowned. "She's gone." Manny then started to leave after he saved the baby from the river. "Hey, Manny. Manny, aren't you forgetting something?" Sid asked.
"No." Manny replied with a blunt tone, causing Y/n to look up at the mammoth with disbelief.
"But you just saved him." Y/n exclaimed.
"Yeah, well, I'm still trying to get rid of the last thing I saved." Manny retorted.
"You can't leave him here. Look, there's smoke! that's his herd right up the hill. We should return him." Sid pleaded.
Manny was about to reply when Y/n spoke, "I agree with Sid, let's return the baby back to his herd." Y/n spoke lowly, not wanting any objections from the older male.
Manny stared down at her for a second before he let out a sigh of defeat. "Fine. Let's go."
