Episode 1 written by Kat.Marie19
The team stood in stunned silence as Robert and Dean were taken away in squad cars. The aid cars had already left with Shanice and Jada, and the crew from Station 88 was loading up Bob, the kidnapper. He continued his yelling, loudly proclaiming that the girls had broken into his house and started the fire, and demanding a lawyer.
"I'm going to see if I can ride in the aid car with 88," Travis commented, looking to Maya for approval. "I want to make sure that SOB doesn't try to talk himself out of those handcuffs."
The team was off duty, and Travis didn't need Maya to sign off on his plan, but he respected that she had done her best to use her leadership position to keep the situation from spiraling out of control. Although her efforts were futile, if she had other ideas for how he could best be of assistance, he was willing to listen.
Maya, still trying to process all that had happened, simply nodded to Travis before taking a breath and turning her attention to the remaining members of her team.
"Ok, 19," Maya began, easily slipping back into her captain's voice. "88 has the scene under control, and since we don't have any gear, we can't be of much help. Let's go back to the apartment and figure out our next steps."
Andy, Vic, and Jack, stunned by how the heroic rescue of kidnapped teenage girls had turned into such a nightmare, simply nodded and began walking toward the apartment now shared by Andy, Maya, and Carina. Maya was just a couple of steps behind her team when one of the bystanders stopped her.
"Excuse me," a twenty-something young man began. "Are you in charge? I heard you say you were firefighters, and those two men put in the squad cars were on your crew."
"Yes," Maya affirmed. "I'm Captain Maya Bishop from Station 19, just up the street. The two men who saved the girls and were just arrested are members of my team."
"Well, I just wanted to let you know that we were both recording everything that happened," the man said, gesturing in the direction of the other young man standing with him. "Those police officers didn't care about helping those girls, and only made the situation worse," he continued. "We've already uploaded what we recorded to YouTube, but I can send you the link if you give me your phone number."
"Yeah, that would be great. Thank you," Maya responded, and proceeded to give out her number. It didn't take her long to realize that these videos might be the key to getting the charges against Miller and Sullivan dropped. As soon as she came to that realization, she decided she should do a quick canvas of the remaining bystanders and see if anyone else had videos they would be willing to share.
"Hey guys," she called out to Andy, Vic, and Jack. "I'll meet you at the apartment. I want to take care of a couple of things here."
When she heard an affirmation, she began to quickly and as unobtrusively as possible approach the people who were still standing around. She did not want to draw the attention of the remaining police officers on the scene. After talking to about fifteen people, she had exchanged numbers with three who promised to share their recordings with her.
Back at the apartment, Jack began to put away the food and drinks that had been left on the table, and Vic took charge of figuring it how to get Dean and Robert out of jail. Andy sunk into the sofa, still trying to calm her racing heartbeat.
"So," Vic began, pausing to make sure she had Andy and Jack's attention. "We should be able to get online and find out how much money we'll need to post as bail. As long as we can gather the money and get over to King County Correctional Facility before the end of the business day, we should be able to get them out tonight."
