The Ghost landed back at the Rebel base on Lothal, and not even seconds after it touched the ground Sabine bolted for a speeder, and headed for the only place she could think of: Ezra's Tower.
She arrived at the tower in mere minutes and flew up the side of it to the blacany using her jetpack. She slowly entered the old and rusty tower and looked around. The first thing Sabine noticed was the smell, it smelled like Ezra.
✶ ✶ ✶
"Speaking of which, it does smell like you."
"Hmm?"
"I was talking to Ezra.
"Wait, you know what I smell like?"
✶ ✶ ✶
"Wait, how will you find us?"
"I can smell you, remember?"
✶ ✶ ✶
Sabine turned her head and saw a transmitter box that must have been last used by Kallus during his fulcrum days.
✶ ✶ ✶
"Wait. Why should we trust you?"
"Tell Garazeb Orrelios... we're even."
✶ ✶ ✶
"Wait, wait, wait. Kallus is Fulcrum? How does that even make sense?"
"Karabast. I must've recruited him. You know, accidentally."
✶ ✶ ✶
On the wall to her right Sabine saw a small painting that she did of the crew when the first came back to free Lothal a few months ago. It was a pretty good painting if she did say so herself.
✶ ✶ ✶
"Hey, Sabine. I see you're painting stuff."
"Well, nothing gets past you, kid."
"You know, if you ever need a little inspiration..."
"Yeah. Then I'll be sure to look elsewhere."
✶ ✶ ✶
"Yeah, but that makes me look like a fool."
"Makes me look like a bigger fool."
"I paint what I see."
✶ ✶ ✶
"Hey, I told you your stuff was good months ago."
"Yeah, but you didn't know why."
✶ ✶ ✶
Sabine then took the lightsaber of her belt and looked at it. It was Ezra's second lightsaber but it still seemed just as, if not more important to him, than the other one did.
✶ ✶ ✶
"That's not gonna work."
"Working so far."
"I think you're doing well."
"Opinion noted."
✶ ✶ ✶
"Well, that went better than I expected."
"That was better? I hope you're not really expecting us to hand over our lightsabers, are you?"
"We need to do whatever it takes to make this work."
"They'll be safe, Ezra."
"Alright."
✶ ✶ ✶
On the other side of the room Sabine spotted a holodisk. She let her curiosity get the best of her, so she walked over and turned it on. It was a copy of the image that she gave Ezra for his fifteenth birthday. It was a picture of him and his parents.
✶ ✶ ✶
"It's the holodisk from your old house. It was pretty degraded but I cleaned it up. And I found something."
"Mom. Dad."
"Happy birthday, Ezra Bridger."
✶ ✶ ✶
Sabine turned off the disk and set it back down. She walked back outside onto the balcony, and looked towards the capital. She swore that she could hear the cheers of the civilians that were now free from the rain of the Empire over their home. That city was also the first time the Ghost crew met Spectre 6.
✶ ✶ ✶
"Pretty gutsy move, kid! If the big guy catches you, he'll end you! Good luck!"
✶ ✶ ✶
"My name's Ezra. What's yours?"
✶ ✶ ✶
"Who are you people? I mean, you're not thieves exactly."
"We're not exactly anything. We're a crew. A team. In some ways, a family."
"What happened to your real family?"
"The Empire. What happened to yours?"
✶ ✶ ✶
"Sabine. My name's Sabine."
✶ ✶ ✶
She walked around the balcony so that she was facing the other way. Sabine was now looking in the direction of the old Tie Defender factory.
✶ ✶ ✶
"You know, if you get the whole ship blown up, I won't have to deactivate the transponder!"
"Don't worry, I'll get them."
✶ ✶ ✶
Sabine couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if she stopped Ezra from surrendering to Thrawn. The last time she saw him and her final words to her kept on playing in her mind.
✶ ✶ ✶
"Ezra, please! Get out of there!"
"I can't do that. It's up to all of you now. And remember, the Force will be with you, always."
✶ ✶ ✶
Sabine also remembered his words to her right before their mission and his hologram message.
✶ ✶ ✶
"Hey, you okay?"
"I know I can always count on you."
"All right, what are you up to?"
✶ ✶ ✶
"Sabine, don't forget, I'm counting on you."
✶ ✶ ✶
What that was supposed to mean she wasn't sure, but what she did know is that if and when the Empire returned to Lothal, she would be here to protect this planet, no matter who told her no. That's what her Ezra would do.
Wait, her Ezra. That can't mean anything right? Kriff. Stupid Lothrat, making her question her own feelings. One day Ezra and her will see each other again, and then she'll figure out her stupid emotions. Until then she had a plant to protect and she wasn't going to let Lothal down.
A/N: Thank you for reading! This is just a random book I started for my SW one-shots. This won't be updated regularly, you have been warned. Let me know what you thought of this One-Shot. If you hadn't figured it out this is just an added scene to the series finale of Star Wars Rebels with Sabine having some flashbacks. You will get brownie points from me if you can guess which flashback came from which episode! May The Force Be With You! :)
