Here Obi-Wan Kenobi was, in the middle of a lightsaber battle with the person he once thought of as a friend, a brother. I heard the sound of running feet, and out of the corner of his eye he saw them. Luke and Leia, the Skywalker twins, were together at last. Obi-Wan had completed his final mission as a Jedi, to protect Luke Skywalker. The boy was a perfect combination of his parents, and was now ready to go off on his own.
With one final look towards the twins, the Jedi Master held his lightsaber in front of him and greeted death. The last thing he heard was the scream of a teenage boy who had just lost his mentor.
✶ ✶ ✶
Obi-Wan awoke to a world that looked as though he was floating in the stars. He rose to his feet and only then did he realize his appearance. His hands were no longer wrinkled, his Jedi robes looked newly ironed, and after plucking a strand of hair from his head he realized it was back to its original ginger color.
He walked forward a few steps, and then he heard a voice. Not just any voice, but the voice of his former master that he had only ever heard these past few years while in meditation. "Welcome Obi-Wan." Obi-Wan turned his head to see his master just as he remembered him to look.
"Master Qui-Gon, what happened?" "See for yourself." Just as thoughts words left the Jedi Masters mouth and an image was shown in front of the two of them. It must have been mere moments after Obi-Wan's death, there were Stormtroopers firing at Luke, Leia, and Han, and they were firing right back. Obi-Wan spoke as though Luke could possibly hear him, "Run Luke, run." The young Skywalker did just that as the image faded away.
"This is where those who have passed on my experience, and watch what is taking place in the courent galaxy." Qui-Gon explained to his former padawan as they started to walk, to what looked like some kind of doorway. "I was sent here to greet you, my former padawan. Through this door however lies the rest of the galaxy who are now a part of the cosmic force." As Qui-Gon finished his explanation, he and Obi-Wan stepped through the doorway.
The world was a beautiful world of green grass and a blue sky, with trees and hills scattered around. It reminded Obi-Wan of the fields of Naboo. He had very little time to take in his new surroundings as his former master started to walk in a new direction.
"Come this way Obi-Wan, there's someone who's been waiting to see you." "Who-" Obi-Wan didn't get the chance to finish his sentence as his eyes landed on a blond woman, who seemed to be in her early thirties. Obi-Wan couldn't believe his eyes "Satine?"
The former dutchess perked up in response to hearing her name. She knew that voice, that voice that she hadn't heard in what seemed like forever, the voice that could and had her grow weak in the legs more times than she thought possible, his voice. Satine Kryze turned her head and body to the source of the voice, and her suspicions were confirmed when she was met with the sight of the only man she ever truly loved. "Obi-Wan."
Qui-Gon knew this was a moment a long time in the making and didn't want to intrude on such a private conversation, so he smiled and walked away leaving his former padawan and former dutchess alone.
For the first time in years Obi-Wan was overcome with emotion, "Satine, I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I let your plant get taken over by Maul. I'm sorry that I couldn't save you. I'm sorry that I left you all those years ago. I'm sorry that I-" Obi-Wan was cut off by Satine's lips on his own.
After a few seconds of shock, Obi-Wan kissed her back. His arms now around her waist, and her hands on the sides of his face. Satine was first to pull away, "I know you're sorry, and I forgive you. I'm sorry that you never got to know your son." "Satine, none of that- wait. Did you say s-son?" Here Obi-Wan thought that hearing that Anakin was going to be a father was surprising, but this was a whole new ball park. "Y-yeah, son. So much for that nephew coverup huh." Satine laughed despite herself. "Wait, Korkie is your, I mean mine, I mean our son?" Satine just nodded her head in response, and then kissed him again.
They pulled apart and Satine spoke first "I love you Obi-Wan. I always have, and I always will." There were now tears in both their eyes as Obi-Wan responded, "I love you too Satine, now and forever." They rested their foreheads against each other as Satine said barely above a whisper, "Welcome home."
