Chapter 2 Alone to a different man
Lucas could see that enemy ships would give chase to the projects. So he decided to seek a turret, from the turrets that were placed throughout the base, in hopes of giving support fire. Lucas ran down a corridor and found a door that lead straight to a turret. These days the turrets were automated, but they did have a manual option in case of EMPs, or even viruses. Lucas tore out the link to the main computer which was attached to the turret and unhinging the turrets CPU. In doing this the main computer thought it might have been hit by enemy fire, alerting the base that there might have been another attack under a yellow alert. This computer also had the other turrets target the cruiser the projects were in.
Lucas knowing and presuming military protocol assumed the projects would be reported, and used his turret to shoot the other turrets within sight of him, using a blast from his photon lasers. Lucas destroyed the turrets he could and the computer went on red alert.
There was so much chaos; it confused the Ally ships flying overhead. They didn't see where the fire came from, that hit the auto turrets. The Ally ships were looking toward space due to the yellow alert. This allowed Lucas to destroy the auto turrets unnoticed. Now it was time to take out the ships giving chase to the cruiser which had started to take off. Lucas knew the ships didn't know that the turret was under enemy control, but he also knew that he didn't have much time until they figured it out.
The damage from the asteroids that hit the moon base caused a rupture on a wide scale throughout the base. It wasn't completely understood how or why the computer had a hard time getting the right readings due to malfunctions in everything from the camera's throughout the base to the defense systems. It was clear that the intel that they depended on so much was not at the top of its game.
Lucas knew that he couldn't keep the gimmick going. He poorly tried to disguise his fire, by firing around the project's cruiser. These turrets were also equipped with an array of weapons including rail cannons and even a modern missile deposit. While Lucas tried to fire with the rail turret guns around the projects to sloppily disguise himself, he would lock onto enemy ships and fire missiles at the Ally ships. Even though he destroyed a couple Ally ships, this only worked a short while before the Allies caught on.
In seeing that the Ally ships started to head for his turret. Lucas decided to leave the turret putting up just the slightest fight of letting a single ship get destroyed. Then leaving the turret, he turned and ran down a corridor, to get away from the turret being blown away.
"Boom!" went the turret.
While Lucas was using the turret he could see the cruiser fighting back, with fire coming from all sides of it. There were only about a dozen projects but they seemed to cover a lot of the cruiser's turrets. He hoped they had turned on the auto turret system, and hoped one of them was equipped to use the technology on the ship to target Ally ships. A cruiser also carries fighters, and other personnel ships, but Lucas doubted that any of the projects were that equipped to use them in a middle of a firefight and survive.
At this point the Allies were aware that there was still someone in the base. So the Ally base computer went on orange alert which meant an insertion was in the base. Lucas didn't get a chance to confirm the projects escape, but he hoped that the cruiser would get away.
Lucas had to find a way out, and find a way to get away. He was getting tired of traveling through corridor after corridor that he couldn't recognize. However he spent the time thinking of a way out. The obvious solution was to go out the exits down the corridors to the public domes. As Lucas closed on one of the exits he noticed that they were heavily guarded and pretty much blocked off, with guards and mobile barricades. Even if Lucas could fight his way through the blockade, it still posed a problem after he got past them, and would enter the public domes. There he would stick out brutally.
