Newt woke up in a large, moving cage, surrounded by crates. There was the distant noise of an alarm ringing. It was dark, but his eyes were ajusting fast.
Other than his name, Newt could remember one thing: a girl. Not her name, not her age, not her relationship to him. If she was his girlfriend, sister, best friend, he couldn't remember. All he remembered was her face.
Her vibrant, happy, greenish-blue eyes; twinkling with laughter. Her beautiful blonde hair framing her face. Her smile, lighting up her whole face.
"Wow" he thought. "I really must have cared about her."
And he wished, probably the hardest in his life, that she was at the top of this long, hard journey, so he could remember her.
The cage shuddered to a halt. The alarm stopped ringing. And light flooded back into his world.
There was a thud, and a boy was helping him up into the world above. Newt's heart leaped. Was the girl from his past here? B
When he got out of the metal cage, he scanned the faces, immediately realizing that there wasn't any girls in this new place.
"Gonna break his shuck neck checkin' out the new digs!" Someone yelled.
A boy stepped out of the crowd of fifty or so boys.
"My names Nick. I know you're confused, but can you first tell me your name?" Nick asked.
"Newt." He said. "My name is Newt."
Nick smiled.
"Welcome to the Glade shank. Look, I know everything seems really strange and confusing right now, but it's about to get dark. Let's get some food for you, and get you a bedroll."
So, after some kind of spiced meat, and a bedroll in hand, Newt spread out the bed on the grass and looked up at the stars and remembered something. Something a girl had said before he was put here.
"I'm sorry Newt. I'm so sorry. But I don't have a choice. But remember this... I will always love you."
And the world slipped away into darkness.
In another place, the girl Newt remembered was up thinking of him.
