"I'll skype you tonight," a voice rang at the end of the hallways. "Yes, before and after Dad gets home. No, I'm not going out tonight, I'm staying in and studying. I've spent the first two days getting settled in, I need to do the readings. Yes mum, thanks mum. Bye mum. I'm, uh, going into the library. Silence, remember? Yes. Bye."

Diego sighed. He unfortunately had been cursed with over barring parents, which he appreciated and loved -- they were the reason he was where he was today -- Harvard. But, it was also a little annoying. His mother had already ring him three times today, and over sea phone calls from England to America were not cheap.

To get her off the phone, he had a list of excuses already prepared, which his older brother had given him that he used in college. Number one had already been checked off -- the library.

The library was one of the most favourite places amongst students on the campus. Instead of in high school where it was a place no one wanted to work, here it was shared by like minded individuals who wanted to work. Or parents with a very large salary who had trust fund babies enrolled here.

It was also a great place to keep silent, and work in private. Diego's dorm mate hadn't arrived yet, and if American TV shows taught Diego anything, it was that the older room mates would be having sex 24/7, majoring in sex psychology.

Maybe Diego was looking too much into it. He was nervous, and all the crazy, stupid ideas were running through his head on what his professors would be like, what nearby restaurants would be the best, the people he'd meet here, the people who he would keep in contact with even after college.

High school was a great time for him. All the girls loved him, which he appreciated, but didn't return the favour to any of them. He enjoyed the sweet sense of solitary and the calm sensation of not having to make awkward small talk with fellow class mates.

"Excuse me sir, we're full." A woman said, not averting her eye contact from her computer to talk to Diego. Her glasses had fallen to the tip of her nose, and her hair was scraped back into a bun.

"Oh, I wasn't actually planning on staying in here, I just need a book for English--" Diego started.

"And what year are you in?" Said the woman, still clicking with her mouse on her 10 year old computer.

"Er..I arrived here two days ago. First year." Diego spoke, giving a hopeful look. The woman then pushed her glasses further up to her forehead, as they were almost slipping off, and made eye contact with him.

"You find the book, and you take it out. Be quick." She spoke, raising her eyebrows, giving the boy a full evaluation.

"Er. Thanks." He told her, nodding. Maybe it was the British accent, or the fact he was an English major.

Or maybe, it was fate.
