On the cliff we were told to stand on top of the pedestals that lined the edge. Pedestals that would launch us into the Grimm infested forest for our initiation.

"Each of you will be given teammates. Today." As Ozpin runs through his introductory speech as to how our partners will be picked and what we are meant to do once we land in the forest my mind wanders. How will I be able to find Pyrrha before the others?

"That said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years" Ozpin continued. Our "landing strategy" was up to us. Without one you'd surely be out of commission for the year, if not worse. My strategy was to use gravity Dust and the momentum of a spinning slash to propeller down to the forest floor. I might get a bit dizzy, but it should be safe. I don't have much experience with this type of Dust, but I know it's effectiveness. As students start to fly, I don't have much more time to think about it. I unsheathe my sword and prepare myself for launch. I look to my left and see Ruby looking a bit nervous yet determined. She looks at me and flashes a little smile, I give her a thumbs up, and off she goes. My turn next. I bend my knees and jump off the pedestal at the moment of launch. No turning back now, it's time to show what I'm capable of. I scan the forest for the ruins which house the relics we'll need to bring back to the cliff. One relic for each pair, the relic you pick determines who you'll be teamed up with. I look for Pyrrha, who should already have landed. Her red hair should be easy to spot in the greenery though with the wind whipping past my eyes makes it hard to see. As my decent begins it's time to start preparing for my landing. Annoyed that I couldn't find Pyrrha nor the ruins I begin to twist my body around and start spinning. I take my sword and focus hard, activating the Dust within. As I do fire starts to pour out of the edge creating a tornado of flame.

"Wait, flame!?" I forgot to switch to my gravity Dust! Even with my modifications I can only have one type of Dust in my sword at a time. I meant to switch it in the locker room, but my conversation with Pyrrha and Weiss must have distracted me enough to forget. What a waste. Now not only am I out the lien for the Dust, I'm spinning out of control headed towards a foresty end. As I try to counter my rotation, I hear a bang and suddenly I'm headed backwards. My decent has suddenly stopped and, although I'm a little sore from hitting the tree, I'm safe. Pyrrha must have saved me just like in the show. I look up and confirm it's her sword that's caught my hoodie. "Thank the Brothers Pyrrha is such a good shot." I attempt to remove the swords and free myself, but without proper leverage I am unable to unstick myself from my new position. I'm stuck until she comes to retrieve her sword. Plenty of time to think of how I could've made such a foolish mistake after years of thinking how I could've saved myself.
