—y/ n pov— tonight was prom night! after taking a billion pictures we went out for dinner and then headed to prom. we pull up at this big colosseum and inside it was beautifully decorated like "a night in Paris", which was our proms theme. i sat down at a table while daniel walked over to get us some drinks.
i looked around at everyone dancing, talking and having a good time until i noticed someone familiar sitting at a table in the corner. it was zach, and kay but kay was talking to her friends so zach was just sitting there, i couldn't believe he was actually here with kay even after he found out she cheated on him... he really must love her for him to forgive her that quickly.
daniel comes back with our drinks and we sit and talk for a minute. he jumps up from his seat and spins around all excitedly "wanna dance?" he asks with a smile "sure, seavey" i say taking his hand and following him to the dance floor.
we danced our hearts out, may i add neither of us were exactly great at dancing, but we had fun. then a slow song come on, daniel and i got really close and swayed along to the music. i looked in his big ocean eyes and felt him leaning in, it was like last time when it felt like he was going to kiss me, but didn't... so i did. i leaned in and kissed him and he started to kiss me back but then stopped.
he pulled away and i was so confused "i- i'm sorry y/ n, i'll uhh, be right back" he said before running outside of the building. i went back and sat at the table i was at before, confused as ever. i looked over and noticed zach was in the same place as before, i don't think he had even got up to dance. kay wasn't anywhere to be seen either. he looked over at me and we gave eachother a sympathetic look, seeing as we were both sitting alone at our senior prom.
i walked outside to find daniel sitting on the sidewalk, i sat down beside him and put my head on his shoulder. "i'm sorry i ran out like that, it just didn't feel right" he said with a sigh. "what do you mean?" i asked him "y/n i like you, i've liked you since that first day i met you at our house... but it just feels wrong to kiss you because, well because zach likes you." he said, and my mouth dropped
"what? zach doesn't like me, i'm sure you're just confused" i say still in shock "no zach definitely likes you. he never stops talking about you. he's never really been into kay, she cheated on him like a week into their relationship and she kinda uses him but he's just never ended things, even though he secretly can't stand her. he wasn't really upset when he told you she cheated on him, i think he just did that cause he knew you'd be there for him... and you were. as much as i like you, i can't do that to zach." he said never looking up at me. zach the annoying kid i tutor, likes me? the kid who's sometimes nice to me and then sometimes acts like he can't stand me? this doesn't make any sense.
"you're a good friend daniel" i said rubbing his shoulder "thanks, but if zach doesnt sweep you off your feet soon i'm coming for his girl" he said jokingly with a big cheeky smile. i playfully hit his arm and then we headed back inside. when we got in daniel went to the snackbar and i seen zach still sitting in the same spot all alone, so i decided i'd go talk to him. i walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder, he turned around to face me "hey zach..."
